Values rode the wave of ‘US run as a business’ deregulation speculation. After the AHCA troubles last week, people have decided to cash out on their gains.

Any short term movements (6 months or less) is all about speculation over actual performance. SO now, the speculation says big players are not sure what’s coming.

I don’t really take the Dow’s performance as an indicator of the economy, as most of the gains go to the rich anyways.

Actually it’s true, because all Trump does is say a lot of things but he does nothing.

And in all that you have a string of 12 higher closings. Something that has rarely ever occurred. And when it has occurred, the market has typically done well, but as it is such a very rare event not much of an indicator. But even 10 and 8 days consecutively closing higher are also often followed by strong markets.

A little more surprising, we just had 6 days of consecutive lower closings. One might suspect that that indicates a bad market. Well prior to 1960 it did. Oddly enough since 1960 the 15 times that has occurred the market was higher a month later. And most the time 6 months later and the pattern holds for 12 months out.

Of course the problem is with such a rare occurrences it is difficult to read too much into it. I’d advise against using it as anything other than interesting trivia.

However, after such a big upturn, a little correction like this is to be expected. You can’t sprint that long without expecting people to take some profits off the table.

Yup, look at the 2016 total market performance. But the average investor only got a 5% gain after fees. Fund managers are the ones getting rich.

If you’re going to pick an arbitrary length of time to measure the dow over, so can I. Actually this from when trump was elected till now, so it’s not arbitrary at all.

Funny then that the dow was already in the midst of an upswing when trump was elected (?). So it must have been all Obama up till that point right? That’s how stocks apparently work, I gather.

Pretty much everything related to the economy that Drumpy and his minions take credit for are lagging from the prior regime.
