Kinja'd!!!

I give Paul Ryan credit for coming out and actually saying that the Republican Party needs to figure out how to transition from opposition to governing.

Easier sad than done. In their opposition phase they elected a bunch of people who despise compromise, and even if you capitulate to them to try to get something done, you risk alienating more moderate members (especially in the Senate). I suspect they’ll have a much easier time with tax reforms, since everyone loves the idea of cutting taxes, and what programs need to be cut to pay for those tax cuts can be treated as a separate issue (unless they are dumb enough to try to push permanent tax cuts, in which case they will need to show spending cuts as well).

7 years. 7 fucking years to get a piece of legislation put together and alignment. He rushed something without either, failed; and then gave himself a mulligan.

What a fucking spectacular failure of a man.

Btw, this is like basic shit I make my college hires make sure they get right, even on basic product launches.

Seems like the Republican party traded winning elections for a cohesive governing contingent. They picked candidates, policies, and positions that work great while campaigning but are incongruent with actually governing.

The Democrats are equally lost. They forgot how to get elected and don’t really have a leader or plan or idea for the future. Letting the Republicans self-destruct will work to bring down their party; however, taking over the ruins of the country after that happens is different than building a strong coalition that can stand on its own merits.

Hopefully things don’t get too bad before they get better, because it is us, the people, who suffer from the shortcomings of our government.

Sorry, but tax reform is going to be even worse

There will be four hundred thirty-five different takes on tax reform, all with “compelling” evidence as to why a particular special interest needs to pay no taxes whatsoever, and why cutting a particular government program is blasphemy, farm subsides for example

Speaking as an Independent, I find that both parties require serious reform and purging of all senior leadership so that bipartisan agreements and arrangements, in favor of the American people and the Constitution can be established.

When was the last time they governed? Reagan? Maybe for a brief flash under Daddy Bush? I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Tax reform is going to be fun.

The party of “NO” has forgotten how to do anything but block, whine, and back stab.

Well that’s the trick. As long as the tax cuts don’t extend for more than 10 years, they can pass them without needing to identify cuts to pay for them. So they may not have any trouble passing the cuts. But they’ll have a fight with the budget bill, or with the debt ceiling bill later (or they might just borrow more to avoid those bills, but I suspect there will be conflict). Doesn’t keep them from cutting taxes on the wealthy though.

“At one meeting Trump held with members of the “Tuesday Group,” an informal caucus of moderate Republicans, the lawmakers went around the room and answered where they stood on the bill. When Pennsylvania’s Charlie Dent said he was a “no,” Trump replied, “Why am I even talking to you?””

This summarizes why when people say government should run like a business. more times than naught governments don’t have the ability to walk away. businesses can seek or quit markets, raise prices. But for government your customers are also your shareholders.

If fiscal conservatives want to look at something, they should ask themselves “why does the US gov spend about same amount per capita (which isn’t split up per capita) as other countries totally spend and still not serve all Americans?” Instead of “lets cut service” maybe it should be “why are we getting hosed for what we get, for we pay for?”. probably because that would mean attacking their corporate donors.
