Kinja'd!!!

I finally went up to the Angeles National Forest the other day. The roads are insane. How are people not racing up there at night like in Initial D? Im not saying its a good idea but with all the crazy stuff that goes on, its hard to not imagine a pack of Evo’s with rally lights chasing down a group of GTR’s...

I know I stayed up there till the gas came light on.

I only did Mulholland Highway/The Snake when I was in LA a few weeks back... all that in a Ram 2500 Cummins, so not exactly the most most fun... I would love to give Angeles Crest a test...

What you want is a hillclimb, like the one in St. Ursanne. Easy to do, and the US can definitely use more tarmac hillclimbs.

Kinda off-topic, but how long have you had that RX7? I swear I’ve seen that profile pic since late high school on the FP and YT comments.

The first rule of Crest Highway racing is you don’t talk about Crest Highway racing. Second rule is YOU DON’T RACE! Mostly because there is a decent amount of CHP points and they cracked down mostly due to the fact motorcyclist like to kill themselves every weekend. Also there have been a couple gnarly head on collisions with deaths.

I frequently travel between LAX and Palmdale. When I have time, I do Angeles Crest. I would rate my top 5 rental car experiences through the pass as follows:

1) 2015 V6 Camaro

2) 2014 A4 2.0T

3) 2014 Toyota Avalon

4) 2015 Chevy Cruze Turbo

5) 2015 V6 Mustang (terrible)

Yeah I was the third car at a head on accident on the way down. It was a mess. Yeah street racing is not my thing in the slightest. But it must go on up there. Even if they’re just timing themselves through sections. I also rarely see police up there but I get to go up when everyone else is working. I bet its a mess on weekends.

That is such a cool event. But Hillclimbs aren’t really my thing. I enjoyed Pikes Peak. Had been watching it for years so it was cool to run, but you really need a purpose built vehicle and we don’t have that many hillclimbs to justify building something.

Why isn’t there more evidence? Pictures of crashed street racers and stuff?

Due to me being in Orange County when I can get up there its mostly the weekends. Since that is the busy time enforcement is up. I have always thought taking a Tuesday off and driving the crest would be a great way to kill 8 hours of PTO. Glad to know I should try it.

I lived in the greater LA area for 18 years and never drove up there...

I really need to.
