Not just a normal aluminum one that squishes a little? I’ve never had a problem with those. (Love the pretty, red drain plug.)

Just a hunch, but I’d imagine that the rubber/aluminum is more suitable for aluminum pans, and the nylon is for steel. I don’t know if that’s true, though.

I wouldn’t use the plastic one I would think rubber would seal better. I tried like 3 different flavors on my miata and the stock style copper seemed to work best.

I don’t see how the nylon one doesn’t smash and squeeze out the edges once you apply some torque to the drain plug.

They didn’t have a copper one in the correct size or I’d have probably gone that way.

Nah, nylon’s pretty tough. It’s soft enough to prevent you from marring the sealing surface, but it’s not going to squish out unless you waaaaay overtorque it. Compressing those ribs a little is what’s going to make it seal tightly.
Rubber is softer, which is why I’m guessing that it’s for aluminum oil pans where it becomes super- important not to overtorque the plug. Since it’s reinforced with aluminum, that should help keep the rubber from squishing out (unless, again, it gets overtorqued).

I’ve used those nylon ones a bunch on old cars where metal washers wouldn’t seal, or where crush washers weren’t available in the size I need. They work fine. But I also don’t reuse them like some people do then get surprised when they start leaking.
