Kinja'd!!!

The bid has been placed. I have every expectation that it’ll be well received and I’ll be driving that home tomorrow. I took it for a drive today and it sure felt good. 1992 with an LT1 engine and a six speed manual that felt notchy and wonderful.

It has no rollover protection, and the exhaust is far too loud for Laguna Seca’s strict 92 db sound limit but both of those problems are solvable.

I had to skip a track day at Thunderhill this morning and then went and visited friends running their LeMons cars at Sonoma Raceway after looking at the Corvette so I’m jonesing like some kind of drug addict to get back on the correct side of the fence, where I belong.

I sure hope this is the one.

Fingers crossed, oppo. Fingers crossed.

Add a rollcage... Not for protection, for chassis rigidity. I loved my 95 LT1 but damn, that chassis was made of chewing gum lol. Also, you will see, changing the optispark is long the first time, then you can do it in less than 4 hours :)

That’s one of the things that’s recently been done, which is great news as I have no freakin idea what an optispark is. I know nearly nothing about Corvettes aside that for the money, this is one hell of a lot of car.

Oh don’t worry, it doesn’t matter if it’s recently been done... It can die in 2 days again or in 10 years, you never know :)

They HATE water... They’re like gremlins. If they get wet, they transform into a useless paperweight. Oh and they are located just under the water pump, so if it starts leaking, it leaks RIGHT onto it. Models from 1994 and up had a vented one, which helped a little but of course, they are not compatible with 1992 and 1993 models...

And the optispark is basically the distributor... It’s not easy to access though...

The optispark is a glorified distributor that uses an optical sensor for timing. It has all of the same mechanical wear problems of a traditional distributor and adds in the foible of an electronic sensor that is sensitive to moisture and whose aftermarket replacements are all strictly inferior in quality.

I had a ‘92 with a weld in bar. All the difference in the world and highly recommended. Front brakes and braided lines will be first on your list. ZF was a way better unit than the T56 in my C5z. What are your plans for it?

Welding in a bar and finding a way to get it under 92db so I can take it to the track and find out what else it needs. The tires have some decent tread but aren’t really track worthy so I’m probably going to get a stickier set on another set of wheels at some point. Beyond that I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to do with it other than put the top down and take some long drives on the Pacific Coast Highway.

That’s my plan today actually. My offer was accepted. I’m picking the car up in three hours.

Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t track a ‘vert.
