So I’m thinking about tinting the windows on the Integra. But I have a couple of questions first though.

Here’s the link to the website I’ll probably order the tint from , in case anyone has prior experience with them. I’m looking to get either the solar guard brand or their 2 ply pro plus.

They sell the tint pre-cut for your vehicle, but they offer the rear cut in two different pieces for easier installation. Once it’s fitted though, can you see the line where the two pieces meet or does it just depend on how well you do the job?

Lastly, the whole reason I’m looking to do this is to keep the car cooler and help protect the interior from the sun. I’m thinking 50% on the front windows and 35% on the rest (including the hatch.) Would that be enough to do anything? I know that 50% isn’t much, but it’s basically free, how they have their kits set up (Ordering for the whole car is the same as ordering two kits for the rear windows and hatch.)

Btw all the tint is legal for where I live.

I can’t comment on the doing it yourself part. I will comment that anything lighter than 35% is a waste of time and money.

Polarized tint exists (it’s expensive) that keeps out everything but the visible light spectrum. Your windows don’t look tinted but the heat is greatly reduced.

I have 35% on all my cars.. looks good and doesn’t effect functionality. Never gotten a ticket, even when I was already pulled over. Honestly, I would just take it to a tint shop. Groupon has deals pretty often. I just looked around on the local BMW forum to see where people were taking their cars.. IIRC it was about $220 for a sedan and $200 for my coupe. Lifetime warranty too.

I would at least look into how much getting it done at a reputable tint shop would be. Tint is kind of a pain in the ass, even pre-cut and I’ve found that installation fees are pretty reasonable and they do a better job than I can.

Tint is one spot that I don’t recommend DIY. I’ve seen too many DIY tint jobs that just don’t look right, and the installation cost isn’t usually that bad. I will say anything less than 35% is a waste and almost all of my cars for the past 20 years have had 35% front and 15% rear.

Bottom line is: It’s your car, do what you want.

Well I do graphics on shows, sometimes films like that. I would think the back windows are the toughest, in my old Mercedes with a very curvy window the guy said he had to do it twice. I wouldn’t waste the money on quality materials when you can get a warranty for work from a shop. I am very good with a squeegee but I didn’t want to mess it up, it’s thinner and I wasn’t sure how it would behave compared to the 3M vinyl I’m used to.

here in sunny Florida-for the last 30 years- i have been having my windows tinted every car i buy after a disastrous self tint job - for the cost (i think to get my 350z done w/the best they had tint was around 150)-and time-(just about two hours) paying the professional to do it is the way to go- and while against the rules- i run 5% side and back windows

I know it’s been echoed a lot before, but seriously if this is your first time ever, I really don’t recommend doing it yourself.

I ran 15 all around on my last two cars. Technically it’s illegal on the front (not supposed to be more than 26 in Florida) but it’s a secondary offense so I haven’t been stopped yet (knock on wood)

15 rear, 30 front is very common here. It doesn’t look too bad on a sedan, on a coupe though two different tint levels might seem a bit funny. Also, 50 isn’t really going to do much.

As someone else said, they do make cool ceramic tint that doesn’t have color but blocks heat better than regular tint.

And unless you get a sunshade or tint your windshield (don’t tint it) the results are kind of meh, especially with the levels you’re considering.

I paid a guy $120 to do my old Crown Vic. Including installation and the tint and I have to say it looked like it was hard enough and he had enough skills and technique that it was probably work paying him to do it because it wouldn’t have come out as nice. He also took the rear brake light out of my window to put tint under it and then put it back together which looks way better than when it just gets cut around the light. I would look into that too if you go the precut route

I might get that on my car. All tint is illegal in the front in Michigan except for the top four inches of the window which looks bad. But if they couldn’t tell and I could get the heat reduction on my black car that could be worth it for me.

I’m starting to think about paying for the hatch to be done and doing the windows myself.

The rear window on the Vic did look particularly trickery because it was curved so much, I imagine the hatch would be similar. The windows didn’t look as hard but he had a hard time with mine because the seals on the bottom were so stiff. But that looked like the hardest part of the fronts.

I’ve heard cheaper polarizing gives it a slight funny yellow or blue shade but the nicer stuff is barely noticeable.

Is that the weird yellow/blue tint a lot of Lexus SUV’s came with..?

Possibly, Lexus would definitely sell something like that
