For me it is a few things:

- As top heavy as it, it has beautiful smooth transitions between corners. It’s very controlled.

- On the limit it, it’s rotates just a little bit. On a gravel road if you lift mid corner you go full oppo.

- The noise it makes from 3000rpm-4000rpm. It’s a nice growl, but not fuck you loud.

- 3rd - 4th. Those gears seem to be perfect gears for good bendy roads.

- The gators (turn signals) at night at so neat seeing the orange glow over the hood from the drivers seat.

- The mid-range punch is fantastic.

I could go on forever.

I can break mine loose at 40 if I’m in the right gear. Thats 2nd gear, & peak torque is at 2000rpm.

The fact that it was made in this millennium, but is styled like it was made in the 80s.

That it does 0-60 in a still respectable mid-6 seconds, and that doesn’t matter, because no one expects it to have acceleration in the single digits.

That it handles better and communicates steering better than any sedan its size has any right to do.

The fact that the interior is covered in wood and Connolly leather, like a true luxury car should be.

The perfect lines, long and low body, and miles of hood.

They fact that it’s really narrow for a sedan of its class.

How you have to get down into it one foot at a time and how the cockpit is relatively cramped.

Thats the same with the Juke. It looks top heavy (it is), but it takes the corners so well. I’ve kept up with a stock FiST. It was not as quick or handles as good but it held its own with one.

It handles way too well for what it is.

Lots of torque.

The noise (dual overhead cam V6)

The auto will actually let you rev the motor out.

The one on the left - the purr of its little diesel heart and the torque that comes with, the heavy feeling of everything (not a sportscar), the lighting, the somewhat traditional styling (if only it was a luxury trim car), the unusual colors, the economy and long distance comfort. The one on the right - everything. It’s the sweetest car I can imagine, and I have enjoyed every moment behind the wheel. The revvy little I6, the odd but solid transmission, the big seats, the amazing visibility, the unique styling inside and out, the early 60s color palette, the general reliability, the positive attention it always receives.

Besides, it is a car that will not let you forget how special/ridiculous it is when you drive it.

I might be a bit of an attention whore.

In a juke!? MPH? Nice. I’ve broken the tires lose at 55 before, but it was wet, so I don’t really count it. Besides, their 275 width makes it a difficult proposition no matter what.

-If you are actually trying, it will keep up with much faster cars on a mountain.

-Even tuned, on my first tank with tons of WOT pulls, downshifts just to make pops, and mixed driving through hills, I still averaged 28.3(hand calculated) on a tank.

-God tier seats

-Orange seats

-The noises

-The ability to torture left laners with gunfire noises.

My favorite thing about my Honda Fit is that it’s a subcompact hatchback with a Japanese mini-MPV vibe going on. The hip point is higher than in a contemporary Honda Civic. The magic seats are superbly versatile for accommodating cargo, passengers, or combinations thereof. The base of the windshield is quite far forward, but the driver’s sightlines feel perfectly normal thanks to the rake of the windshield and the location of the A-pillars in relation to the driver. (It’s almost a monospace design.)

Leather belongs on horse saddles, not in car seats. The Japanese are right with nice cloth in luxury cars.

My 1968 Triumph 2000 Estate.

Kinja'd!!!

For a start, the family history aspect; it was ordered from the factory by my grandparents, and used by them as a daily driver until it passed into my hands last year.

The sound; the little straight six may not be all that powerful, but with a stainless exhaust on it, it has a wonderful burble at idle, and really howls as you make your way up the rev range.

The smells. It’s a funny thing to like, but especially with all the memories that I have tied up in this car, its aroma of old leather, slightly damp wool carpets, hot oil, and unburned hydrocarbons instantly takes me back to childhood drives with my grandfather.

The way it drives. I find it incredibly relaxing; it’s fast enough to keep up with the cut-and-thrust of modern traffic, but slow enough to encourage just going with the flow and not trying to get ahead at every opportunity. It actually handles pretty well, but the floaty suspension and low-geared steering take you aside and whisper “I’d really rather you didn’t” when you start getting too exuberant. The view from the driver’s seat, too, with the huge, thin-rimmed steering wheel, chrome-ringed instruments, and tiny wing mirrors on the edges of its expansive prow, never gets old.

Finally, I love its combination of stylishness, rarity, and practicality. Inside and out, it oozes ‘60s flair. While its four-door sibling was extremely popular in the UK, only a few thousand of the Estate version were made, and here in the US, there are only a handful of either. People always come to chat when I park, and I always find myself looking back at it as I walk away. Despite all this, though, it’s still able to earn its keep – I can use it to haul yard waste on Saturday, than clean it up and take it to a car show Sunday.

If it weren’t for the huge amounts of road salt used here, and the limited-mileage provisions on its insurance, I’d gladly daily-drive it.

-Has enough torque you don’t have to rev the shit out of it to keep up with traffic. Like I had to with my Civic prior.

-Excellent handling

-A/C!

-Has some get up in go above 3.5k as long as you’re in 3rd or a lower gear.

3. The design.

At one point, the cloth was the luxury item and the leather was the utilitarian choice. My dad had an old Rolls in the shop that was a pre-war era car. Had cloth all in the cabin but the driver’s spot was all leather.
