Three years ago, I blew out my L4-L5 disk in my back, which led to discectomy surgery. It took me a solid two years to fully heal (i.e. no noticeable lasting effects with nerves, tingling in my legs, etc), so now I’m in weight loss mode. I’ll have the extra lbs gone by the end of summer, but I’d like to live healthier in the last 40 years of my life than I did in the first 40.

When I say “fully heal”, I mean “feel 100% normal”. That disc wasn’t going to heal itself, so the quickest option was surgery. I probably should have started exercising after a few months (walking on a treadmill, build up my lower back muscles, etc), but it scared me half to death when I felt a huge twinge of pain when I sneezed and felt tingles in my left leg. I have none of that anymore, but I need to basically get skinny-ish with my natural linebacker build before focusing on anything more strenuous than a brisk walk.
The discectomy is totally worth it, btw.

Thanks! Actually, what we really could use is for the clouds to roll in and dump some snow a few times. We’ve spent a lot of March in the 70s and we’re way below normal for precipitation. I’d like the entire state to not be on fire this summer.
