Kinja'd!!!

It’s called the Brickhouse, for obvious reasons.

It’s being torn down this year, probably. Supposedly they’re working with the owner/bartender to incorporate it into the new building, but it won’t be the same. It’s an old hotel bar, but filled with couches and a pool table and so much freaking random shit everywhere. It’s like someone’s basement living room, I love it. The music is either German house, or 80s, and sometimes so much disco. I’m really gonna miss this place, there’s nothing else like it in Vancouver.

That’s a bummer. My favorite place shut down a few years ago. The location is still vacant, and nothing has been there for almost 4 years. It was a great location and everyone used to have a blast.

That stinks to hear it’s being torn down, a good drinking establishment is mighty-mighty, a place to let it all hang out.

I hate it when shit closes and stays vacant. Like addicting insult to injury or something

Yeah they’re few and far between. Tons of bars here, just not many that don’t suck.

My thoughts exactly.

There’s a bunch of places down here on Lincoln Rd that shut down because the rent was too high. I’m talking about close to 500 dollars a square foot. So a lot of places are going out of business. Those locations will remain vacant for years. There’s a rooftop bar/lounge that is available for rent, but hasn’t be rented since 2010 or 2011.

That’s happening to a lot of Vancouver. Places closing due to rapidly raising rent or property taxes, and then no one moving in. Lots of dead zones now, or at least half dead ones

That is describing Miami Beach as well. Plus they are tearing down all of the art deco old buildings to replace with modern looking buildings that look like shit. The architects and planners are fucking stupid, and need to realize hey these buildings are part of what gives this area charm and tourists dollars. How about instead of making an ugly fishbowl, they make a newer style art deco building.

That is shitty. I hate when neat old places go away because the “hip young crowd” don’t go in. But some of us don’t want them! Maybe we just want to relax and have a beer and a conversation in a neat place without drunken college kids and loud terrible music.

This one actually doesn’t have a problem with people coming in, it’s almost always packed by 9 or 10. The owner is just finally ready to sell after bartending for about 30 years.
