Under that Carrossier Saoutchik extraordinary body, sits a 4.8 L V12 driving the front wheels through a huge transverse 4-speed manual gearbox. This was the only Bucciali car the French company ever sold to the public.

The gorgeous Saoutchik body was then fitted to a comparatively pedestrian Type 47 Bugatti chassis in 1935, but finally reunited with the V12 FWD drivetrain in the 70s under the supervision of Paul-Albert Bucciali himself. The car in the photos looks exactly the same as the prototype showed in Paris in 1932. Sweet dreams...

Here I thought the underslung Daimler Double Six drophead was the most beautiful “traditional” (fenders outside the body form) prewar car. My mind has been changed, I’ve never heard of this but it’s incredible.

You must mean this beauty! I think I had seen pictures of it at Pebble Beach and was floored by the magnificent proportions. It is quite interesting that it is from 1931 and the more massive sports saloon version is from 1932, just like the Bucciali.

That’s the one, I saw the same pictures when it was at Pebble and it captured me immediately. Just stunning. The saloon is amazing in its own right, but doesn’t hold a candle to the Bucciali. Thanks for exposing me to it!
