My dad had a first-year fwd 180 hp TT Roadster with the non-metallic dark grey paint and baseball glove leather seats, like the concept car. It was fun up to 7/10ths but beyond that it fell apart quickly.

I want one with the baseball glove stitched seats some day. I was in 9th grade when these came out and a neighbor got a dark gray one with the brown baseball stitched seats. 13 year old me thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

I like the first gen, but I think if given the choice I’d go second gen. It much sleeker. The first gen looked a bit too much like a New Beetle. But the second gen is still feminine and stylish, rather than looking like a pissed off frat boy.Although I could do with out the big Audi grill, I think the headlights make up for it.

It is but it’s just one of those weird irrational things from your youth that you hang on to. I also want those awful purple 986 Boxsters that I first saw in middle school (owned by the guy who owned the local Cadillac dealer of all things) and a dark green WS6 like the one my bass teacher replaced her Geo Storm with when I was in 7th grade and took me through the McD’s drive thru in that made me think I was a rock star for 5 minutes.

I’m not a fan of how it looks, but it was the first car of Audi’s that kicked off their new design language. With out it, Audi would not look how it looked today.

I agree with that second part completely. I think there is something incredibly refreshing in the simplicity and restraint in the design of the car. It’s minimalist and yet completely distinctive. Simple but not bland.

I wrecked a 225 horse Quattro in grand fashion in Cleveland shortly after a rainstorm. Konis, HR springs, liquid filled auto meter boost gauge in the dash vent. I miss it. An electrical time bomb though. Crt dash was missing pixels etc. still, a very memorable car.
