President Donald Trump just spoke from the Oval Office. He came right out and blamed the House Democrats, who are in the minority, for not lending votes to a bill that would have overturned the signature achievement of their party’s president, Barack Obama.

He said the GOP was “very close to doing it,” but got “no votes from the other side, meaning the Democrats. He said the bill was probably 10 or 15 votes shy of passage

“A lot of people don’t realize how good our bill was,” he said. He said he anticipates Obamacare will “explode,” at which point the Democrats will join the GOP in passing an overhaul.

“We had no Democratic support,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “They weren’t going to give us a single vote.”

So, how many Republicans voted for Obamacare? Let’s see :

The Affordable Care Act received 39 votes against it in the Senate, all from Republicans. One senator abstained from voting. In the House, there were 212 votes against it, with 34 coming from the Democratic Party and 178 from the Republican Party, according to govtrack.us .

So, how many Republicans supported the ACA? Not a single one. Apparently, though, it’s the Democrats’ fault for the failure of Trumpcare. How does that register on your hypocrisy meter?

Donald Trump does not register on my hypocrisy meter because my meter does not register that high.

Now, they will probably do things to actively sabotage ACA. And how much time did the Democrats spend writing the ACA legislation? 41 days?

Can the Opposition Party become the Governing Party? Not as of yet.

The ACA is flawed, and it needs work. But the ruling party will now let the house burn rather than call the fire department just to spite the other party. Then they can blame the problem on the Dems, rather than the fact that they couldn’t do better. We’ll find out in 2018 who the American people believe. It’s appalling, but it’s also politics.

“A lot of people don’t realize how good our bill was”

That’s because they said they’d tell us what was in it after it passed.

The most powerful man in the world can do nothing but whine and cry about everything. It’s sort of perversely amusing.

“A lot of people don’t realize how good our bill was,”

Well I mean, quite a few of the opponents of the bill from the GOP side said the bill was actually too good . They wanted the bill to be even more discriminatory, not Obamacare Lite.

Basically, they couldn’t even agree on how much to screw over poor people.

Appalling politics of my own I’m dealing with right now. I’ll bring you up to date one of these days.

The most powerful man in the world is the most visibly insecure person in the world and he does not care a bit. And people like Kellyanne Conway just want to orbit him and seek his praise.

What I don’t get is how his followers were among those gonna get hosed and they still wanted to stand by their man.

I’m not entirely surprised. I recently read an article about LGBTQ people who voted for Trump who are now feeling burned. Well, he appointed an Administration that hates LGBTQ people and Mike freaking Pence is his VP, what exactly did they expect to happen?

It’s likely the impact of 8+ years of brainwashing and propaganda from places like Breitbart. Most people blindly following a politician aren’t going to drill down into bills to figure out what is actually going to happen to them, they’re just going to accept whatever words are thrown at them from their favourite site in their media bubble or TV.

It’s especially getting worse today, when many news organizations want to put a spin or a little fabrication on their reports, so finding unbiased, raw information takes longer than it even should. It took me a couple months to actually compile viable information for the crime statistics in my recent posts.

I would also add this: While I revel quietly in Trump’s and Ryan’s misery (schadenfreude is a bitch), I would much rather see our country succeed than any one party fail, even if it’s the party on the other side of the aisle. The stakes are too high. I would rather see the GOP write and pass a really good healthcare bill. Frankly, I don’t care who gets the people’s business done, as long as it is done well.

The problem here is that Obamacare was essentially a very conservative approach. They could have, and probably should have gone much further to the left. The Republicans could simply have claimed victory when it passed, but because they’ve instead declared it the worst socialism ever, they’ve painted themselves into a corner where the only bills they can support are ones that result in millions losing coverage.

How anyone can support the RepubliCon party and its policies and still have the gall to think themselves Christian is beyond me.

Jesus said to sell all your earthly possessions to help the poor. The GOP does the exact opposite as often as possible, and with extra glee when it involves fucking over anyone who isn’t white, hetero, or male.

If that is how a person feels the government should operate, that is their view to have. It’s wrong and they’re and asshole. But they are free to think that way.

For the record, the Dems aren’t perfect either. But they do usually try to include as many as possible in their definition of who is an American.

Be careful, though, Mercedes: that same blindness, on the part of Liberals, brought us Donald Trump. And if Trump wants to be the big dealmaker, he may just start swinging left to where he can get some cooperation and leave the Righties behind. We’ll see. But it didn’t look to me like it was a very good week for the Great Cheeto.

For my part, I am a believer in the Great Interview In The Sky, and I try and leave judgment for that meeting, which for some, will likely be a pretty awkward affair. I also try not to include the J-name and the F-word in the same paragraph.

Some of those Republicans are family of mine, cousins and cousins’ spouses, and I wouldn’t want to live my cousins’ lives. An Oppo put it this way: folks had eight years to see what the Democrats had on offer and they rolled the dice on Trump because they knew were going to keep on getting neglected either way.

his statements of expanding care directly run counter to his parties core belief for the last 6 years. Any republican voting yes faces in their district a democrat who will challenge them in the next election and a more extreme republican in the primary for not killing it.

In Washington the only thing stronger than party politics, is self preservation.

Even if he starts swinging left I’m never going to forget the bridges he’s already burned with our communities. A snake is a snake even if he acts nice to you every once in a while. And indeed, that same blindness was near equal (if not fully equal) with the Democrats last year.

Hopefully we’ve learned our lesson...but if electing a big money, pro-corporate, pro-money in politics DNC chair means anything, we really haven’t.

Remember to vote in your local elections folks!! :)
