Work is finally sending me to Germany!

Kinja'd!!!

I found out today that I’m going on a fairly last minute trip to Germany in April for a couple of meetings. I’ll be in Neuwied, about 30min from the Nurburgring. I’ll have a free Friday, which I have confirmed is an open day for the track. I also have a friend who lives in Neuwied who has never driven the track either, and is willing to split a rental at the track with me.

So for those Oppos who have done this, what advice can you offer? I’m likely going to go with RSRNurburg for the rental, but am open to other suggestions as well.

I’m too damn excited! :D

Meanwhile British TV is loosely based on war dramas.

Look at this silly road, and it’s a massive waste of space, look I can make some improvements and the animals can have more room, away from these lunatics trying to prove their car is better. Honestly all we hear about is the bloody ring times.

It’s expensive, but how many times are you going to go?

Personally I’d probably go with the M135i or the M235i because I have owned enough BMWs to be relatively certain of the handling characteristics and because a super high HP car is going to be more than I can handle.

RSR is likely who I’m going with, although the higher prep levels of the cars at Rent-4-Ring is enticing too. More safety gear = moar better.

I’ll likely go with a lower end FWD car, thinking FiST, just because I’m also saving for a wedding right now. haha

Ironically, the course had (at least at one time) a bypass for the Carousel, though I think it eliminated a slight bit more than that diagram does.

Is your daily an FRS? If so I recommend something with RWD just so you are getting familiar driving dynamics. (And very low HP - OK sorry I couldn’t resist. :) )

I do really like the FiST however - great performance per dollar and very tossable fun.

I heard from someone else that one of the groups wouldn’t rent him a RWD car with it being his first time. We will see though.

I kinda of like the idea of renting a Euro hot hatch I can’t get here, and the FiST would qualify since 2-doors. ;) haha Also, harder to spin out in the FWD car. We will see though. I do love RWD.

Kinja'd!!!

I went a couple of years ago and was set up to rent a track car (frs). I ended up not paying for the rental as the scheduled day was very wet, and when I got to the track I watched from a couple of corners first and saw many many people go off track. So figured I’d skip paying a lot for a track rental and risk binning it.

Went the next day in the standard rental car that I had (bmw 530d wagon) and still had a great time (even with 3 people and all our luggage in the trunk). Honestly if you’ve never driven there, it doesn’t matter what car you use, it’ll still be fun.

Hhhnnnnnnggggg, you lucky bastard. I would personally take my own car. But off the list:
Lotus Exige V6 S

or Lotus Exige 240S

Yeah, that’s my mentality. I just got use my regular rental since the company is paying for it, and I’m not that irresponsible. Lol

Oh, you might want to practice driving the Ring on a racing sim, Forza, Gran Turismo, etc... I know it helped me a lot when I actually got there as I recognized most all of the track and didn’t feel lost.

Already been practicing, since I was about 6. lol But I am planning to put in some extra laps these next couple of weeks. haha

I know my sim racing experience definitely helped me when I did my first track day at Road America.

Nice! I saw the other thread on FT86 about the Ring that was posted in the last month or so, but hadn’t seen this one.

BTW, I go by Shark_Bait88 on there. ;)
