We’ve owned this truck for 15 years and didn’t realize how interesting it was until I started doing some research to help me decide whether or not to sell it. It’s a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with a manual transmission. Apparently not a lot of these were ordered as a base model with the manual, no carpets (just the mats), and no exterior keypad.

What made me think it was something people might want to see was when I sent a list of all the cars we own to Doug DeMuro. Pontiac G8 GT, Cadillac Cimarron, Grand Wagoneer and a few others but he replied saying the one he really wanted to check out was the truck that we only use to haul mulch and drive when it snows more than a foot. It’s a lot of fun to drive and I think still looks pretty good after all these years.

So I thought I’d take a few pictures and post them here for you to view and discuss. Have a great day everyone!

That’s such a neat, oddball truck. I literally had no idea that existed.

it ate a timing chain guide rail. I did like that truck though. I dont know if it was the tire size that came with mine but I always had rubbing on the sway bar when the wheels were turned full. That thing also had the turning radius of a cargo ship

It’s the four door Ranger that the US deserved, but not the one it needed right then, so it was hunted out of the market. Or possibly ignored out of it.

My dad had one with an automatic, and even those aren’t common. Nice!

That old C10 in the background looks just like the one that was my first vehicle.

Neat Sport Trac. I had no idea there were base model Sport Tracs.

I’m confused - do you have 2 silver sport tracs and only one a manual? (Second pic from top)

And - I had a manual 94 explorer, with what looks like the exact same gearshift sticking up out of the floor. Never saw another, and you couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting an explorer in the mid-90's. Cool truck, take care of it!

Good eye! That’s our neighbor’s Sport Trac in their driveway. They liked ours so much they bought a higher-optioned model.

Very cool! These weren’t common in previous places I lived, but here in the Portland, OR area I’ve noticed quite a few. Great option for people who want something DDable and not humongous but also want the utility of a truck. Never seen one with a manual transmission though, didn’t know that was even offered!
