So in reality the zero to sixty time from when you hit the button is 3 minutes 2.3 seconds.

Might sound like an idiot asking this but does this mean in order to get said results you have to sit in staging without moving until it’s ready or could you be driving around not “ludicrously” while the car reaches the ready threshold?

Honestly - I don’t care. Those Tesla quarter mile times are just insanely spectacular. Who had any idea 10 years ago that I could buy a car, off the lot, that would do back to back three flat 0-60 times. It’s better than a flying car pipe dream.

Pretty much.

I’m sure it will be ready the next time the light changes!

Not sure, but either way, it seems pretty unusable in a real-world scenario.

It is incredible, verging on inconceivable, but this latest time is a parlor trick for someone with access to a private airstrip, not really applicable at all in real-world scenarios (or even at the drag strip?).

Its not really a parlor trick. Think about it, don’t a lot of people let their engines cool between runs? This is the same deal. By getting the batteries and motor to the ideal temps, it allows the maximum current flow through the motors to get those times. When you are talking about sub 3 second 0-60 times you have to give a little somewhere.

Well, I think we can agree that it’s completely unusable at a stoplight.

As far as at the drag strip, it’s usable if you can enter this mode when your turn is coming up and then can slowly make your way to the starting line. From the article, it was impossible to tell whether you could move the car to a different location after activating this mode.

If you can’t, it’s a parlor trick. Very cool, but something you can only show your friends when conditions and locale allow.
