I’m looking at dashcams again. Something I’m really interested in - the rear camera should be wireless (besides power). Bonus if it’s weatherproof and can be mounted outside (the rear one). In my recent experience (= last 15 minutes with google) it’s very hard to find reliable info on current models - Opponauts, what are my options? Thanks!

(BTW if Torch happens to read this, any chance on an update to this article?)

Hmm, looks like kinja ate the link. But search for jalopnik dashcam review to see what I tried to link to.

Editing to add - rear license plate frame style camera seems like a decent idea but might not be as portable as I’d like. I have no problem leaving a power outlet near the rear of every car I might use it in.

(bumped for daytime views

I don’t recommend having any sort of recording camera mounted outside for daily use unless you want it stolen, knocked loose, or other similar fate.

Hmm, wasn’t thinking about theft. I was thinking something like a license plate frame mounted camera, or something screwed down, not a stick-on. But still wireless would be nice.

Ah, a license-plated mounted unit should be fine! I guess yours could double as both a back-up camera and a rear-view surveillance camera for accidents.

Sort of, yeah. Could be used for hooking up to the trailer, but it would need power somehow (which I could take care of). Just based on how traffic has been lately, I am really itching to get one of these.

The other thing (I’ll edit my original post to include) is that it should be somewhat portable. That’s why I’m thinking a wireless/power only style of installation for the rear cam. I could leave a power outlet in the rear of each car, and move it from car to car as needed.

I think know much of anything about dash cans but I know this is a pretty recommended website about them  https://dashcamtalk.com
