I wish I had a yard and more room. My did just had a tumor removed a couple weeks ago, we are not sure how this is going to go but he probably won’t get more than a year by the sound of it :( After all of this I might not get another dog until I have a better place to live and can get a couple at once.

Don’t let the old timer keep you from getting a puppy. My 17 year old dog is just fine with his 3 and 1 year old buddies.

He’s an American Pit though. He’s the sweetest thing ever, just afraid he could see a puppeh as a toy or a hostile takeover rather than a friend.

I feel your pain. Mine is 12 and getting a bit run down. I want to be optimistic about him, but he’s not a small dog so... you never know though. I own a condo with no yard, it’s a big condo but still no yard. I would like to be able to get multiple larger dogs as well but can’t afford to switch to house (So Cal). I’ll probably do it all over again with a single dog when the time is right... or maybe a single big dog and a smaller companion. This one has done well solo in a condo but I take him running every day and take him out and about to meet people.
Really sad to hear about the tumor. I know I’ll be going that direction too.

Naw, I just bought a new car and it already has claw scratches from mine trying to get the attention of other dogs. I love the doggos, but they can be trouble makers.

Yeah he has had an irritable bowl for years so he takes a pill that makes that better, but he started acting like the pill wasn’t working so they checked him out and there was a 5cm section of his intestine that was lumpy in the scan. They said that is never a good thing so we just went ahead and took out the section instead of a biopsy, then tested it. So it is gone but with cancer in dogs they don’t treat it like a person, with people they hit them hard but with pets they keep medication lower and just help them feel ok and try to suppress it I guess. My aunt died of cancer so I know a lot about treatments for people but I never really thought about it with dogs. Considering their lifespan it doesn’t make sense to have them feel like shit and not be able to do anything for two years just to extend their life, I don’t want him to go through anything terrible, they just don’t understand. So we are getting a genetic test done, I guess it has only been used in pets for about 6 months, pretty cool stuff, it allows them to see what is the best treatment rather than try a few only to find out it was not the right one. Then he may have a year or more, if they do nothing they said maybe 3 months. It sucks!

My youngest is a pit mix and he gets along with the others fine, though he does like to play a bit rough he’s fine when he’s occupied. Maybe adopt an older dog, shelters are full of adult pits.

Thanks for the information on the test. I really wish him the happiest and longest of what he has left. Hope you’re able to cope okay as well. I take mine in next week to get some stuff looked at. Some of me doesn’t want to go and just ride out the last of his years, but I guess we’ve got to see if there’s a fight worth fighting.

On my way into work today, I saw that the squatter on my property has a couple pups. OK the Squatter would be a Fox, and she apparently gave birth to a couple baby foxes as I saw 2 little cute foxes in my driveway as I left this morning. Now I know why my dogs have been getting so extremely excited lately.
