otherwise known as automakers trying to make their cars sporty with some marketing crap
A trend that should die is the actual exhaust being covered by a cheap plastic looking exhaust opening that is in some abstract shape that does not actually attach to the exhaust or match the shape of the exhaust at all. Preferentially, I’d rather have a traditional round exhaust opening, but if you’re going to make it a different shape, you might as well match up the exhaust opening as well instead of leaving it round

Even Volkswagen is going with this trend for the new Arteon
in the video at around 7:55, you can see the presenter call out the fake exhausts while interviewing the designer, who gives some marketing crap about design blah blah
it gets worse with the C class D in Europe, where they block the opening
I mean... it wouldn’t be hard to just directly rout the exhaust through the hole since ITS RIGHT FREAKING THERE

I don’t mind stylized exhaust openings. What I do mind is manufacturers trying to hide the exhaust tips.
What’s even more sad is the TLX has dual exhaust. I think dual exhaust, one tip on each side, looks good on any car. Why the hell would they try to hide it?

I don’t mind thy the tip is hidden, but the trim doesn’t need to be there. It looks more like a fake brush guard than a fake exhaust

The explanation I’ve heard is that this is so the fake exhaust tips stay clean from the exhaust and it looks good longer. I still think it’s ridiculous and looks too obvious but the logic is sound.
