Delicious semi-local brew. Blue Mountain’s “A Hopwork Orange” - orange infused IPA - 7%. What’s everybody drinking tonight?

Funny thing is, I generally dislike them too. At least, I used to. I’ve always been a stout guy, eventually getting into browns and porters, then in the hot months I love a good unfiltered wheat beer (like Bell’s Oberon). Unfortunately many IPA’s these days are competing to see how much bitterness they can cram into the beer, which I dislike. This one has the nice yeasty sediment that you have to swirl up at the bottom of the can when you pour, giving the beer a lot of body and smoothness that most IPA’s lack. Add in the orange and it’s really delightful. Not too bitter, not too sweet, nice body, and....

That does sound good. I guess I should qualify my statement that I dislike [the current hip trend of over-hopping the] IPAs

There are some that are good, a nice hoppy start with a crisp finish. But a wise man once said an overly-hopped beer is covering a bad recipe

Man I agree with that so much. To me, Stone seems to be the worst offender, but recently it looks like the company has matured a little, and is making other things that are pretty solid. In 2015 they took their Russian imperial stout and added some chai spice to it, with truly fantastic results.

Oddly enough I enjoy Arrogant Bastard

I’m kind of over Stone myself. Now that Triple Crossing has that second brewery down the street from them I just go there instead. Better beer.

God I love Triple Crossing. Falcon Smash was my gateway IPA. I love just about everything they do except Paranoid Aledroid.

Should try a new style new England IPA. Juicy, mouthwatering citrus delicious. I drink treehouse dipas and they are just exquisite with none of the bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel and round middle with no bad aftertaste...

Paranoid Aledroid is decent, but yeah, most of their other stuff is just better. The only thing that wasn’t up to their usual standards was one called Pride of Monroe, which was just a generic low-ABV ale of some sort. I think whenever I finally get around to organize a Richmond Oppo meet, that will be the meeting place.

I could really go for some Choosy Mother Peanut Butter Porter from Isley right now. Had some on Tuesday and wish I bought a bottle.

This past Saturday I went to both breweries in Petersburg. I’d been to Ammo before, but it was my first time at Trapezium. I could go for a Little Monster from Ammo or a bourbon-barrel-aged Lemon Honey Ginger from Trapezoum right now.

It was amazing. A really good transformation from the regular LHG, which is very muddled. The Little Monster is also fantastic...very sweet and not really IPAish.
