Maybe you think this post is political. Maybe you don’t. I don’t really care either way. I do care that you take a look at this. It’s a bit of a long read, and tough in parts, but highlights some uncomfortable facts.

Those are horrible stories. This is most likely the new face of manufacturing in America. Despite OSHA fines there appears to be no improvement in safety or processes.

Maybe if these companies didn’t have to deal with regulations, they could afford to pay their workers enough money to buy new hands and fingers or a nice reincarnation every so often.

Pretty accurate from my experience. TMMK has a decent record itself, but many suppliers are pretty rough jobs. Had a friends wife nearly lose an arm at a tokico shock plant. Word was the Toyota engine plant was pretty hellish with floor temps 100-120. I understand you can’t stop thermodynamics, but still tough.

OHSA needs greater powers and the ability to hand out bigger fines

Part of the problem is so long as companies are allowed to fine suppliers to excessive degrees for late orders, suppliers have to figure out what costs them more money, doing it right or doing it quick. If OSHA raises fines, companies buying from suppliers could raise their own fines too, and the problem would still persist of choosing speed over safety.

Does OHSA have the authority on the USA to force businesses to shutdown?

They do here
