More airbag recalls?

Kinja'd!!!

My wife’s 2009 Versa (not pictured), which so far had narrowly avoided the Takata recall, just got a recall for the passenger airbag. The recall makes no mention of Takata, but warns of explosive shrapnel.

The letter for the recall says the fix will be done by the end of April, but it warns us not to let anyone ride in the passenger seat until then!

Meanwhile, I’m going on 15 months of driving around with a faulty Takata airbag on the driver’s side without even an estimate of how long until a fix happens.

My ‘07 Versa has caught the recalls. If I didn’t hate the Nissan dealership nearest me, I’d have been there already getting it some medicine.

Is it the same Takata problem? If so, the risk increases with age of the car and humidity.

Dumbass question: Can you just pull the fuse for the airbag? I’m assuming that does nothing, since the explosions happen at random times and not necessarily when crashing.

One of my friends has a 2012 Versa... sounds like she’s probably affected too? :(

No idea. Nor do I know the odds of survival in an airbagless crash vs the odds of a malfunction. Witness me!!!!

Don’t let anyone sit in the driver’s seat either. Duh!.

Not sure. I think most manufacturers are processing things from oldest to newest, so maybe they haven’t even issued the recall yet.

I believe Takata. I’ll wind up taking the cars soon. Basketball season is over for kids and Girl Scout cookie season ends this weekend (Saturday is the last day at our troop). So, maybe Easter weekend, if we don’t drive down to LA for some fun and sun.

I’m in the same boat. Scheduled an appointment to get my 2010 CR-V’s airbag s replaced, dropped it off at the dealer, picked it up when it was ‘done’ after hours and then get home only to see my driver side airbag still wasn’t available. The dealer also said no loaner, which seems kind of ridiculous considering its my driver side airbag.

Yeah, shrapnel being exploded into my chest and face area seems like something that would justify a loaner.
