Whenever I see one I get worried. There are two very good reasons.
1) Lots were sold to rental fleets here and that means they’re being driven by somebody who is either lost or not familiar with the somewhat fluid nature of Italian traffic, or both.
2) Someone went out and bought one with their own money, this means they don’t give a shit about cars or driving and this makes them potentially more dangerous than option one.

One sits next to an F355 Berlinetta in my garage, so I don’t fit either of your categories...
Most of the L owners on the Fiat forums have one along with a small 500.

It looks like a dumb rabbit that ate too much, but my wife bought one anyway.
The 500X is unquestionably the better-looking car. It doesn’t fit my use case (family hauler) because it’s significantly less spacious than the L, but Fiat wasn’t trying to sell on that aspect.
Fiat should have done one of the following:
1) Market the 500L on its practical merits, of which there are many. Also, rename it to 600 or some other number so people become aware of its existence.
2) Introduce the 500X instead of the 500L. It looks much more appealing and would have been the logical step up for those who already have the small 500s.

I’m a fan of the 500L because it’s so dorky. It’s the dorkiest car available and I appreciate that. It’s also quite practical and not a bad drive.
