Am I the only one who thinks that Edd China leaving Wheeler Dealers is a bigger issue than CHM being fired/leaving Top Gear?
I’ve always found WD far more captivating than TG/TGT, especially in recent years. The new episodes of TG are picking up some quality that’s been missing, but that’s a different story.
Now that WD’s going through the same thing, I feel destroyed, because I felt a connection to Edd’s shop segments. I dunno.

And the TG trio stuck together after shit hit the fan. If Edd couldn’t continue on with the show because Velocity was going to fundamentally change it and his segments were going to be severely cut (and they are the backbone of WD) why would Mike stay on the $how?

It’s not like WD isn’t a big show in itself, if I’m not mistaken it’s broadcasted in a wide array of countries.
It doesn’t have the fanbase like TG does, however...strange internet fan-art aside.

To me personally it means more. Its crazy how much watching Edd influenced my enthusiasm and fostered my knowledge of cars.

Yeah, I don’t think you can compare the two. TG has a much broader audience than WD ever did.
That being said, Edd China was the only reason I watched WD. I think Mike Brewer is annoying as hell. I can’t really stand him, and there’s really no reason for me to now watch the show.

yup. I could have been happier than pig in mud if mike brewer and the whole bit about selling a car was omitted completely.
I watched one with porsche 912e or something... they bought the car and fixed it and put in man hours... all in about $34k. Sold it for $35K. Somehow high fived each other at the end as if they made a cool million. It was a dumb waste of time to any person who can do basic arithmatics

I’m a car enthusiast who hasn’t seen every episode of Top Gear, and doesn’t watch either the new Top Gear or The Grand Tour the instant it becomes available. There. I said it.
I’d rather watch Edd wrench on an old used car than watch the other 3 idiots do burnouts in exotics. This will inevitably cause me to stop watching Wheeler Dealers, a show that I’ve seen every episode of since it started on Velocity...some episodes multiple times. I’m not the only person that will stay away, I’m sure.
Does it have the same effect on the rest of the world as Top Gear? I’m sure it doesn’t. But, I do think it will have an even more devastating effect on the WD show itself....and to me that’s a massive issue.

I feel much the same. Velocity has too many watered down/fake shows with lame content already. Now they can add WD to the shit pile. Edd was what made WD, it wasn’t Brewers lame jokes and limited wrenching skills.

Agreed on the premise, though they always say that it’s based on a home mechanic doing his own work on the side, so they never included labor for Ed, or any kind of compensation for Brewer. (No one ever asks about Brewer’s time, because no one cares!)
They were high-fiving because they probably made $10,000+ each for filming the episode. Nice work if you can get it.

He never specifically stated Americans that I recall? Just that the particular network (Discovery) that bought the rights to Wheeler Dealers made changes to the show’s format? The same thing could’ve happened if another network had bought it.
