If it were your own money, would you rather buy a new Ridgeline or new Colorado/Canyon for your DD?

The Ridgeline. I don’t tow, or go off road. I maybe only use the box once every few months, what I maybe put in fill half of it. If I need anything bigger, I can rent one.

Probably a Canyon, although I wish it had the heated steering wheel without the ugly grille and came in the short cab with the shorter bed with the diesel engine.

Diesel Colorado. 7k towing capacity, 30 mpg highway, and plenty civilized for my tastes. I also think they look damn good.

I have the Bronco for offroading, so I’d get the Ridgeline. If that weren’t the case, it would be a more difficult decision. But still leaning towards Ridgeline.

I would buy a Taco. Drive it for 8 years then sell it for $34 less than I paid for it with 70k on the odometer.

And with the ridgeline you still get a trunk about the size of a normal sedan. For the stuff that needs to stay dry. And the tailgate moves out of the way which is nice.

I have a 2015 Colorado, and I love it. The Ridgeline was not out when I ordered mine, but it would not have played a role in my decision anyways. Any specific questions? Ask away.

The (second) most outdated, and not entirely competitive choice in its class? Ok.

Relatively speaking, a full size sucks to drive around in town. The smaller option is also way easier to park in town or drive on trails off road. And yes, I know that a full size is still entirely livable.

I do understand the logic, but that’s also the thought process that lead to the malaise era.

At worst, as someone else mentioned, the Tacoma will probably win on resale value. Even if it offers less than its competitors.

Kinja'd!!! "HammerheadFistpunch" (hammerheadfistpunch)
03/23/2017 at 00:33, STARS: 0

No, laziness led to the malaise era. Taking a proven idea and refining it is a 911. I like the notion of making incramental improvements over “innovating” a new truck each time...especially if im going to stake my life on it just working

Kinja'd!!! "jdrgoat - Ponticrack?" (jdrgoat)
03/23/2017 at 00:37, STARS: 0

Fair enough. But the Colorado never left other world markets. It’s not a fresh-slate design, just the freshest in the class until the 2nd gen Ridgeline came around.

Two of those are the same truck and one is an Accord that someone took a sawzall to. I’ll take one of the trucks. But, in all seriousness I’d just get a real full size truck. The marginal differences in price, size and MPG just aren’t worth the loss in capacity.

Kinja'd!!! "HammerheadFistpunch" (hammerheadfistpunch)
03/23/2017 at 00:43, STARS: 0

They changed a helluva lot between to the global truck when they brought it here, only with the refresh (the one we got) is the global one well recieved. Its a good truck i just prefere the “let not chase the fanciest tech and numbers, lets just do what we know really well” attitude of toyota. They are far from the fanciest trucks even when new but they are much less flash in the pan compared to other trucks

Canyon definitely. I’m sure the ridge line is more than enough truck for me but it’s ugly as shit and the fuel economy isn’t better enough to not just get a real truck, Colorado is kinda ugly too. Would probably go taco myself still, or wait for the ranger.

The ZR2 has me intrigued, too. They were always, far and away, the best trim S-10 and Jimmy. I wish they would have a manual option again...

I’ve been driving my Colorado daily, and am about to turn 30k miles. Over that time, I’ve averaged over 24mpg. A mid-size also has all the hauling ability that I need. Over 1400lb payload? Some people just “need” full-size before they consider it a “truck,” though.

Kinja'd!!! "Milky" (jordanmielke)
03/23/2017 at 10:43, STARS: 0

By all means I get your point. I just posted a power wagon because “If it were your own money” was in the original post. I used to off road some stock shitty jeeps and man they went everywhere (I like solid axles).

But my mother has a been a habitual Silverado buyer. Lives in town and doesn’t do any “truck” things, just snows a lot where I’m from. I’ve suggested test driving a Colorado but she’ll probably just end up buying another Silverado because she likes them.

The new 3.5 is having some problems. A friend of mine bought one, and the engine ate a cam and lifters before he got out of the dealership parking lot.

That’s good to hear. Personally I’d stay away from it for a few years to make sure of that, but I’m probably overly cautious. You may recall, but my friend’s new one last year didn’t make it out of the dealership lot before eating a cam and lifters.

Kinja'd!!! "jdrgoat - Ponticrack?" (jdrgoat)

It was a regular option, available in the second half of the 2015 MY. And it was the only thing deleted for the 2016 MY. I have seen some other ones around, but it’s not common. I would love to see a production number breakdown. (Especially for the manual transmission yellow ones... I did in fact order mine this way. You should have seen the look on the sales manager’s face when he came with the sheet that printed out in his office.)

I remember my local dealer had a yellow ZR2 S10 when I was in school a jus starting to get into cars. I always thought it looked the business and would love to get its spiritual successor. My first car was a burgundy S10, so I can settle on that but I’m going to keep a eye out for a yellow now!

Kinja'd!!! "jdrgoat - Ponticrack?" (jdrgoat)
03/24/2017 at 17:52, STARS: 1

The yellow ZR2 is really uncommon. My first car was also an S-10, but it was solid red. It’s a little bit full circle for me, in that way...

I would say the new ZR2 would be a fantastic choice, except for that fact I’m sure they’ll cost (literally) double what my truck cost.

Kinja'd!!! "Carbon Fiber Sasquatch" (turbopumpkin)
