The Chrysler 200

It might not be the best sedan, but it’s certainly one of the best looking. Have to hand it to Chrysler for not making either a bland or over-styled (cough-cough Lexus) commuter car. Even if in terms of reliability, and whatever other metrics, it’s a bad car. I still don’t think it’s deserving of all the hate it gets.

I actually think it is incredibly bland, especially out on the road. But that’s not a bad thing. Kind of reminds me of a late 90's Accord or Camry.

You vs the sedan she tells you not to worry about.

I can kind of agree with that on the front, but I think the back looks great in person. Better than any other bland car at least.

It falls into the same problems as every other FCA product. On paper it’s perfect: it looks good, V6 AWD, premium features and a good price. But the execution is abysmal, poor build quality, cheap materials and low reliability.

It’s really too bad because there’s so much potential.

It’s certainly not bad looking. If only they didn’t make it out of cheese and worn out socks.

I rented one in Atlanta in 2015. It was alright. The seats were alright. The interior was alright. The ride was alright. The noise was alright, everything was alright. And that’s the problem, it’s an “alright” kind of vehicle. It doesn’t excel in anything as much as it lacks in build quality. In five years most of the US population will forget it even exists.

You can sprinkle glitter on a turd, but it’s just a glittery turd. I imagine that the stylists working for FCA are constantly disappointed that their colleagues put shitty hardware in their otherwise handsome creations, but such is life.

I will give you that these new ones are about 654.6% better than the one that it replaced. We have the pre-Fiat 200 as company cars and they are one of the worst vehicles I’ve had the pleasure of driving - plus they immediately rust and their transmissions blow up after about 12 miles.

Appearance-wise I think it is the best looking sedan available right now, in the US market, other than the Audis and BMWs. I say in one at a dealership and was very impressed by the interior and exterior design. However it’s still an FCA product. I still plan on buying one in 20 years for 500 bucks, just so I can park it in my garage and look at it.

The interior is just hideous in that picture, but at least it’s not as bad as the one it replaced.

The problem is, the majority of the ones on the road are rental specials. The 200s and 200c are actually really attractive with nicer wheels and details.

Yeah the interior isn’t it’s strong suit. I just posted it for fairness, or something.

The lurchy hot mess of a 9-speed transmission that this car has is what really brings it down in my opinion. Other than that it’s a perfectly adequate car. The problem is that adequate simply isn’t good enough in a segment that’s full of very good cars.

They are really nice cars. My sister-in-law has one with the 2.4L (not what I would choose) and she loves the mpg’s and everything about it. I just wish that instead of throwing in the towel after their first real try at a good mid-size sedan, they would see the problem areas and improve. But nope......

Depends where I go to school. Either College station (A&M), Denton (UNT), or San Antonio (UTSA).
