Yeah, looks more like a hatch. Not that that ever stopped Subaru from calling it a wagon before.

I was checking these out at the dealer recently and it really blurs the line on hatchback/wagon. They’ve styled it to look like a hatch, but the tailgate actually is nearly veritical, hidden behind some blackout trim...

It is by no means a wagon certainly not an estate,

But the roof ends forward of the rear wheel.

Just barely. That’s why it’s so weird to me. Honestly I’d be ok calling it a wagon or a hatchback. Maybe that’s why Subaru just went with 5-door.

The trunk area of these cars has become a joke. I think 5 door is more appropriate.

I would’ve agreed pre-update. The outback is pretty much an SUV at this point. The Impreza has gone from a compact hatch to basically a crappily-proportioned wagon.

I love the phrase “buttmouth”. Can honestly say, I don’t think I’ve ever heard that particular word combo, which is a shame.

I’d say the XV is crossing a few lines also.

Though I’d only take a Levorg myself.

Not as a hatch/5-door.

The XV/crosstrek is pretty much the definition of a CUV, right? I can’t speak for the Levorg since I’ve never seen one. But I’m getting tired of wagons where the roof line slopes down enough to render the storage area pretty much useless.

The XV sure would come under ‘CUV’ for me also.

The Levorg is pretty much a mid-performance estate rather than a cross over (it’s not available in North America). The rear doesn’t drop too much.

I don’t think they will.

Getting a car approved for U.S. sale is too cost inhibitive for anything that isn’t going to sell in it’s tens of thousands.

There are loads of cars that are massive sellers elsewhere but in the U.S. it wouldn’t sell as much and where Euro acceptance is similar to Japanese and elsewhere and they share the data to get it approved. The U.S. wants all it’s own tests done which involves crash testing, etc... of hundreds of cars.

So it’s just not viable.

Hell even if Ford wanted to sell the 3 door alongside the 5 door, they’ve have to completely redo most of the tests all over again.

The way I see it, is if it doesn’t have a D-pillar, it’s not a wagon, it’s a hatchback.

The Impreza, Focus, Mazda3, Cruze, etc - they’re all 5-door hatchbacks. Most assuredly not wagons.
