If it maintains its weight it should be a good 300 lbs (8-9% in this class) lighter than the AWD rivals. It won’t be fastest in a straight line but I’m willing to be it’ll crush the others around a track.
That’s what Honda had always been about.

Yeah the last car beat a Ferrari F430 around the Nurburgring and the BTCC race car version of it was still FWD, yet armchair critics continue to say its too much power for the front wheels because apparently there is literally no evidence of it performing just as good as a RWD or AWD car.

Yeah, but a 15k mile 3 year old M3 wasn’t exactly what you’d call cheap. I still paid 76% of MSRP for it. My 328i isn’t exactly what’d you call common and 8 years after it was made I still paid 38% of MSRP. Common ones, sure they deprecate, rare ones like I like, not as much.

I’ll be curious to see how many sell in Ontario (Canada, of course). The regular Civic has been the best-selling car country-wide for some two decades, and insurance rates are accordingly (no pun intended) eye-watering.

my only issue with them is the price.
here in canada, they want to start them in line with FoRS, GoFf, and STI. all of which are 45-50K cars.
and I’m sorry, but 45K for a FWD honda civic is bonkers.
if it was 40k or under, then yes, it might have done well. here, in snow country, probably not.

You are such an angry person. I was simply stating that saying ‘it’s faster than sports cars’ doesn’t tell me anything about how fast it is because many things are considered ‘sports cars’.
Anyways, driving enjoyment is not about lap times alone. Drivetrain layout certainly has a large impact. I don’t give a flying fuck if the Type R is faster than any sports cars, it’s still FWD and therefore IMO less fun to drive than many sports car.

Why can’t you folks understand that it’s not about performance?
No one is saying “Can’t believe it’s not AWD, it’d be so much faster with AWD”. At least not many people. It’s more complaints about how it’ll drive and how it’ll feel, not how fast it is.
It could literally be as fast as a BTCC race car on the street and people would still say “but it’s FWD” because it wouldn’t be as fun to drive as it could be.
