Which No BRO truck would win the race war of best basic truck? A No BRO truck is defined as a 2WD standard bed single cab pickup truck divided into classes V8 and V6 and the I5 or I4 class.

Which would you choose for daily driving occasional towing and maybe some mexican street racing?

My choice might be in the V8 class the GM truck with its nice LS engines with tons of aftermarket and factory performance upgrades and parts interchangeability.

In the V6 class I think I would go GM again because of its LS based 4.3 ecotec3 making 297hp 330lbft but I am not sure if an ecoboost is available in the ford single cab if so that thing would probably be cheating.

In the I4 I5 class I have no idea what I would choose maybe the toyota cuz hilux?

For the V8 class, I’d go with the R/T Ram. Short bed, 2WD, with the 5.7L, and 8 speed transmission.

I’ll take a 2.7 tt V6. 2wd, 6.5' bed with the option of going up to an 8' bed for a true no-bro truck.

I think the winner of the I4/5 class is the old Colorado with the 240hp/240lbft 3.7 Atlas I5. You could get it with a street package (shown) so it would likely outhandle the competition too.

Wouldn’t slapping upgrades on the LS increase the Bro level of the truck?

V8 I’d go Ram. The power bump overcompensates for the slightly higher bulk compared to the competition, and ZF 8HP.

V6, man that’s a toss-up. For V6 NA, GM with that 4.3. V6 FI, obvs that would be Ford’s 2.7 ExoBoots. And yes you can get it in single cab 2wd.

I-series, probably again GM. That lil Ecotec puts up some decent numbers.

The F-150 can be had in single cab/short bed configuration with the smaller 2.7L ecoboost 6. Equipped as such in XL trim with the “sport” package is how I would do it for this type of truck. This gets you the basic power accessories, cruise control, a real radio and carpet inside, and real wheels and painted bumpers and fascia so that it doesn’t look like you’re a parts runner on the outside. Even the smaller ecoboost is still 325hp/375tq. I’d also check the boxes for the towing package and 3.73 locking rear end.

Well that’s cool! I wonder what would win in a drag race the chevrolet V8 5.3 vs the F150 2.7? This is the kind of journalism magazine should be doing.

I am really a fan of the GM engines. but the ecoboosts are awesome. A single cab short bed 3.5 ecoboost would rip.

I’m still puzzled how the big three haven’t come up with a true muscle or performance truck with truck sales this strong at the moment.

i think its the bro truck phenomenon going on. Bros want the biggest 4x4 and they think single cab short beds are gay or something like that.

I’ll take the short-bed single cab Tundra with the i-Force V8 and optional TRD supercharger for the V8 class.

Kinja'd!!!

The Toyota Tacoma X-Runner. It had a nice body kit that was very tasteful, had actual suspension goodies that help handling, has an excellent V6 paired with a 6 speed manual, RWD, and can tow 3300 lbs. It would also be a hell of a lot more reliable than the american equivalent. You also can get a factory blower for this.

Technically it doesn’t count here because it’s an extended cab.

I agree I would be perfectly happy with a base model GM and 4.3 with 2wd. most of the truck things I would be doing wouldn’t require more and in my experience most people with cummins and powerstrokes are just driving them around like commuters.

New Ram for the V8 class, because 0-60 in 5.4 with the 3.92 anti-spin rear axle and the 8 speed auto. Throw on a Kenne Bell supercharger, and let it rip.

And that’s with all the added weight of the mid-range model’s toys. A base model fleet spec truck with the same powertrain bits might even be a tenth or two quicker.

GM has historically done better with less but ima disagree. Ram’s power edge plus the multi-link coil rear, I think, would outdo the General in acceleration and cornering.

My dad always used to say that a real truck is a single cab, long bed and a simple sturdy V8, everything else is posing. He drove a Chevy, I’m picking Chevy.

I’d go with the GM twins in the V8 class. You can get an ecoboost V6 in the Ferds, so I’ll have one of those as well.

No regular cabs are available in the US anymore with an I4/I5, so I’ll have a Colorado with the diesel I4.

My truck is slow as heck (for something as new as it is), and it technically breaks your rules (extended cab, but the smallest cab that they make available). It is what I would (did) pick. Now, if a manual trans was offered in the Silverado/Sierra, that might change things. I would like a manual behind either the V8 or the V6 (LT, Generation V engines, by the way. LS (Generation III/IV) is over).

I wouldn’t even need more than a regular cab and most certainly not spend 50+k for a truck.
