Kinja'd!!!

In the past few years here in Madison we’ve been blessed with finally getting Chinese restaurants that sell real Chinese food along with the usual Americanized version. I’ve been meaning to try this place near my office that specializes in hand-pulled noodles. Today I did, with roast pork and shanxi vinegar. Yum!

This place I went to today doesn’t. Actually I don’t think any of the assorted places around here that have traditional Chinese menu sections do them. But there’s this place called Dumpling Haus that does. It’s not a full-on traditional Chinese menu but they’ve got great dumplings and noodles.

One of the reasons I’m particularly thrilled by this is my hometown of Rockville, MD is the capital of Chinese food in the DC area, with so many legit places. So even though I’m not Chinese, it’s something I grew up with, and for a long time all the Chinese places here in Madison were junk food Americanized delivery places, whereas even many of the Americanized places back in Rockville were at least quality food if not necessarily authentic.

I’m happy that there’s now a few good options here in Madison.

Do they put real Sichuan pepper in their Kung Pao? I have a great love of practically anything made with it, but few use it and usually only in fried chicken dishes (in the form of five-spice powder mixed in the breading)...
