Heads up: did you order new bump stops? If not, then don’t be surprised if yours are originals that begin to disintegrate once you remove them. Also, you might want to cut the metal panel in the trunk that shields the fuel pipe. I can show you pictures of mine as reference.

Nah, didn’t get new bumpstops. I’ll see what sort of shape mine are in but even my NA bumpstops were intact when I took those struts apart. What metal panel are you referring to?

I’ve done it to three Miatas now, the other two look a lot cleaner than mine as this was the first to be modified by my own hands. We all have Koni Sports and the gap is now wide enough to allow one whole hand to safety pass through there. I rolled/crimped the sharp edges downward to prevent palms and wrists getting slit...pops did his own thing with some sort of foam glue and a rubber strip to further prevent accidental lacerations.

...That’s not right and also a bit scary that you’ve been running around with little to no protection for your fuel pipe. Also, you’ll want to cut a hole in the fabric liner on the other side of the trunk for the other Koni to stick out.
Not my most elegant execution but, as I said earlier, this was my first time and my later examples were a lot cleaner.
