There was this , but neither that nor its source article had detailed imagery of the car in question. The video and pics is your link’s link to The Sun make things clearer.

Did they not use a gasket between the turbo flange and the downpipe? Jesus.

Thanks, I looked quickly and didn’t see it. Since the article was dated today I didn’t scroll back to yesterday.

asking for no weird mods is like asking for a vegetarian fish taco. its going to result some odd looks and awkward discussion.

I guess that depends on your definition of ‘weird mods’ :)

So because they had an obviously leaky exhaust, it leaked through hood vents and got drawn through the vents at the bottom of the windshield and pumped into the car.

pre cat, and they didn’t smell anything? I mean it totally could happen but I am still amazed.

It’s a good message to not fuck around with exhaust leaks though, even if this was from someone forgetting simple things like checking their work.

That’s what I was thinking. Granted, I’ve never worked on a turbo car before, but there should/has to be a gasket there, right? And with that much leaking, wouldn’t he have noticed it if he ever had the car running with the hood open?

I mean it sucks that this happened, but I still feel like if the kid knew what he was doing this could have been prevented.

At the bare minimum, you’d want a bead of ultra high temp RTV.
