I like to keep a set of tools in my vehicle, a little bit beyond the basic. Basically I want to have what I’d need to pull most small parts in a junkyard. Right now I’m using an old Klein Tools backpack I got back when I worked for Pirtek, but I recently discovered that Veto Pro Pac bags are a thing and good god.

Kinja'd!!!

This one is their ‘flagship’ Tech Pac bag, which I picked up used for a fantastic price on eBay. New they go for around $260, I got this one for $60, and I feel pretty great about it now that I see it.

Here’s the front main tool compartment, which can hold quite a lot of stuff. It’s extremely heavily built, everything is beautifully stitched and made of really great feeling materials.

Kinja'd!!!

This is neat, the shoulder straps are attached to this metal piece (by some really nice, thick leather), which is attached to the handle. You can lay down the handle, pick that piece up, and remove the straps so you can easily open the rear compartment.

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah, that’s the one. This thing is serious as a god damn heart attack, and I love it. Super heavy nylon straps, leather holding the sides together, metal d rings, a super thick plastic base. It’s so overbuilt, which to me makes it just right.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ll spend some time tomorrow moving stuff from my Klein bag, and then I’ll get a Harbor Freight shopping list together to really fill it out.

This reminds me, I’ve been meaning to do a write up of my EDC ‘get home bag’ as well. I’ll have to do that this week.

I say... there’s gotta be some good reason for your little black tool bag UP SMACK TURN AROUND HE’S ON HIS BACK!

thats a nice looking tool bag. how tall is it?

i keep a couple of tool sets laying around. usually one in each truck. its basically all the tools that are required to take off the cylinder heads from a small block chevy. there is enough other tools to do just about anything within reason on the side of the road. and that all fits in a small short narrow box.

every so often we all got to expand boxes a bit, and that looks like a nice set up to be able to work out of.

I never thought of needing a backpack for tools, but now I just want one.

Seriously though, that is an awesome tool bag! I was looking at those, and chickened out when I saw the price tag. I bet it’s worth it, though.

(I settled on the cheaper Milwaukee version. It hasn’t seen much use yet, but being able to carry my tools on my back sure opens up a whole new world of having my hands free to carry more stuff and thus save a trip or two.)

Bags are awesome. I’m going to leave this at that.

Wanting is a good enough reason for me.

If I was in the market to spend $260 on a tool bag, I’d say this one is absolutely the one to get. At $60 it’s just stupid.

When I worked for Pirtek (mobile hydraulic hose repairs), we sometimes couldn’t get the work van close to the equipment we were working on, so it was nice to have a big backpack to throw in all the stuff you think you’ll need. Now I just think it’s practical for trips to the junk yard, why carry a heavy ass one handed toolbox when you can throw it all on your back and go?

One of my techs has one of these, but his holds a laptop. I can agree that they are very nice, and I hope to get the higher ups to buy us all one for Christmas this year. I saw a HVAC guy with one that wasn’t a back pack and it was just as nice.

It’s about the size of a largish school backpack. Veto says it’s 18 inches high with the handle folded, which is right what I was thinking. It’s about 10 inches deep too, so you can fit some pretty big stuff in it. A cordless drill would fit in the back with room to spare for lots of other stuff.

I’ve always been a big ‘bags’ guy, always looking for something better than what I have. But I think I may have finally reached the zenith with this as my tool bag and my Hazard 4 EDC bag. I guess I can turn my attention to finding the perfect overnight travel bag?

Yup, they’ve got a laptop version as well that’s really nice. I rarely carry a laptop except on vacation, so more tool storage was the way I went with it. Also, used stuff is always kinda whatever you can find, so there’s that. I’m impressed though, if I need something else that’s in their range I wouldn’t hesitate to buy again.

http://www.oscardelta.co.uk/SERE_Black_Ops.html I would recommend the Grab Bag for (in my opinion) the ultimate cold-storage stash bag or EDC....Killer overbuilt by a bunch of eggheads in Europe and overnight bag...I would recommend the BOGear Bullpup or Mission Workshop Cadre for the perfect overnight bag.

Well this just got added to my list of “things that I need that I didn’t realize even existed.” It’s a surprisingly long list.

I’m always disappointed when I buy item A for some reason, then later learn a vastly superior item B exists. I wish I knew all the item Bs at all times.

Exactly! I vividly remember the sound my tool bag made in the trunk of my car this morning as it tipped over and spilled tools everywhere. I own a couple tool bags and a few backpacks but somehow I never considered that someone somewhere had combined the two. And it just makes so much sense. I don’t think I can justify a Veto bag right now, but the CLC bags look like they would get the job done, and knowing me I’ll probably have one by this weekend.

CLC’s look really nice. Even the Klein one I just replaced is REALLY good.

They still make a very similar one. It’s really excellent, I just wanted more.
