Had a really rather splendid day at Goodwood for the 75th Members Meeting. Lots of photos were taken, but these are my highlights.

I did not, saw him come through as I was at the corner before his whoopsie and then heard on the radio that it was getting red flagged but didnt see the crash. went to look at the aftermath and it looked very sorry for itself.

Yeah was good to see it racing, although it did get a disproportionate amount of coverage considering it was mid-pack. The little GNs at the front didn’t get much airtime but the drivers of the first maybe 5 or 6 cars were really going balls out, but weren’t Pittaway so didnt get much of a look in. Not complaining as the beast is very impressive, but just a shame it overshadowed every other car racing.

Are you a photographer for Road & Track? Because these are the same exact photos that are on their website for the #75MM.
And if you are, could I have some advice on photography?

I’m not, but yes they are my photos. I sent them into them as I know Mate from when he used to work for Jalopnik.

Ah thanks! Hopefully I will be able to bring some more to Oppo this year, last year ended up being very quiet so hoping to do better this year.

How do you get the focus in motion for when the cars are at speed?

I use spot focus so its focussing on 1 small point, aim at the car and then follow the car through the full pan. The best rule of thumb to start with is use the shutter speed to match your focal length - ie if you’re at 200mm use 1/200 ish. It took me a good year or so to get panning right and some of the more dramatic ones there were down at 1/30 - the M3 shot was 1/30 at 100mm ish. Panning really is a case of practice, and also get used to throwing away most of the shots. For every 1 decent pan there there are 20 ones where i miss timed it.

Awesome thanks! Any advice on how to do that with a smartphone? I won’t have an actual camera until summer
