What is the latest? Do we get our faces blown off for awhile or do they have a newer more better claymore to install?

With some patience, pleasant “got any parts yet?” phone calls every month or so, and two trips to a dealer over an hour away from me, I’ve had both done on my ‘03 325 bmw. It took just over 2 years from first letter to last airbag replaced. YMMV

Yeah Honda changed my driver side last year and just did my passenger. I didn’t even know about the passenger side until last week. So yeah... what could happen in the meantime?

I’ll just duck in case of a crash.

Its a slow process. Takata is so borked they can’t supply them quick enough. Audi/VW have given up for some models and are sourcing them from another supplier. There used to be about 2-3 other companies that made airbags around the world. I’d bet they are up their arses in orders for new vehicles as well as replacement products.

My mom got the letter from the Swiss DMV equivalent for her E39 in January, made an appointment with the dealership for the following week, and they changed it and detailed the car for free. My guess is that it’s a matter of markets and brands?

The short answer; it depends on where you live and how old your car is.

The longer answer; As there are so many vehicles across so many years that NHTSA has stepped in and set a priority order for repairs. The airbags degrade due to high heat and humidity, the rate of which depends on geographical location. Basically, older vehicles in hot and humid locations get the highest priority, and priority decreases from there.

My Mazda 3 doesn’t need the recall.

Still waiting for my 2011 BMW 335xi. I’m in a lower priority region because of climate.

FYI, I finally got mine done last week. Was sick of waiting and had my service manager escalate it with corporate.
