You got Kinja’d. But what happened with the red F-Type?

Yes, I’m looking at invisible Jaguars. :p

Dammit! Okay, I edited it. Wait a sec and try again.

These are the first of the Not Terrible Jags. They’re still stupid expensive to fix, but they won’t leave you stranded every seven miles.

Very nice. I love the look of the XK.

Given it was my suggestion from before unsurprisingly I’m gonna say yeah. That said keep a look out for any Rs.

Try it again.

I liked the red F-type, but once I saw that green one, it kind of ruined me for red with a common black interior. But, the real reason I’m backing off was when I went to drive my daughter to school yesterday. I realized that I couldn’t have a passenger unless I was willing to do some kind of bike rack thing to strap the chair on the back and make her clamp it on for me (the F-type trunk turns out to be wide but really shallow). That would make it hard on her. So, I”m looking harder at cars with some kind of back seat to throw the chair into.

Don’t get me wrong, if that BRG F-type appears on the market again, my kid can walk to school.

Do I need to find a good local garage I can turn to before I buy? Because I think there might be a good place a couple miles away.

So do I. I still like the look of the gen before better. More catlike. But, I wan’t the more modern car.

Yes, you did, and my wife liked your suggestion. That’s why I started taking a closer look at these. I wouldn’t mind an R, but not if it drives the price up too much.

Maybe? A friend of my father’s daily drove an XK coupe for many years and had minimal problems. Then again, he did keep it religiously maintained.

OMG XK YES. The last generation XK is my favorite. I’d take it over the F-Type any day of the week.

I would definitely recommend finding a good Indy Jag mechanic for any Jag. They’re weird cars (but not unreliable in my experience), and I wouldn’t trust a mechanic who isn’t used to them. Try searching/asking Jaguarforums.com for recommendations for someone in your area.

Really? Well, I won’t fault you for that. They are pretty. Can’t find any in green, though.

I will. I’m not up on my Jag engines. Would this have a version of a Ford engine in this iteration?

It’s a Jaguar engine built with Ford money. The very earliest (1996-2002) had issues with plastic tensioners and Nikasil linings (up to 2000), which tarnished their reputations, but you don’t have to worry about that and these engines really are rock solid. Even the earlier ones (without the Nikasil), are super reliable once you switch out the tensioners for aluminum.

Last year I saw an ‘07 XKR coupe in British Racing Green for sale for about $22k. It sold reaaaaaly fast.

I’m the exact same way, or else I’d be driving a BRG XKR right now.

You should keep an eye on Carmax’s inventory. Right now, they don’t have any XKs under $37k, but last month they had a convertible for $24k, and it seems like 07s-09s tend to sell in the $24k-28k range.

That’s what I’m seeing, too, and that’s my sweet spot. If I know the engine’s good, I’m not afraid of the mileage that would bring it down to that point (50K range).
