If you really want to bring back sales, and attention to the 86, instead of making it a “limited production” car. Which is B/S by the way. Make this. But don’t be afraid to bing the roof line higher at the rear. The rear window needs to be at least a foot tall.

Kinja'd!!!

But make sure the hatch is useful and opens like this.

Kinja'd!!!

Not like this, this is a joke. This is almost worse than a coupe.

I don’t know about the states, but here, the Veloster sold very poorly, so I don’t know if that’s the good idea. I’d say TRD/STI version with 250+hp, which is expected, but would maybe silence the naysayers

Nope. Two things:

More power

Convertible

Well I’m not saying it should look or drive like a Veloster, just that the hatch should open like a big liftback, like the Veloster, or a Saab.

If FP commenters want more power they should buy a V6 Accord.

A convertible would turn it into an affordable lifestyle coupe. It’s a good idea.

Convertible? I can’t put junk in the back of a convertible. Infact that would less room for junk, I don’t like this idea at all.

I actually like the styling of the Veloster, I wonder why Hyundai coupes fail so hard

I never disagreed with you, I want lots more hatchbacks and wagons. I just want the, to add real utility and not just style. When it comes to long roofs

Function>form.

Because they’re Hyundais.

That ’ s a pretty stupid idea for a hatch. it looks dumb and the opening is unnecessarily tight. The window wouldn ’ t be bad if it wasn ’ t for that “ c - Pillar ” going across it.

I wouldn’t say they’re failing, at least not in the US. Sales numbers are pretty good for a relativeLynne niche car. Sure it’s not selling like a Honda Civic, but it’s a liftback with three doors. And still out selling the FR-S buy leaps and bounds. Because a hatchback is a car for a sensible person, and coupe isn’t.

Yeah I’m not a huge fan of this execution, but I do think an FRS hatch back is a good idea. If they just kept the roof line straight instead ps sloped back, and moved the opening of the hatch forward maybe even just 6 inches you’d have a great usuful package.

I like shooting brakes, but its like the designers are going out of their way to ignore the gorgeous designs from the past. You can have a pseudo- C-pillar, but you can’t keep the same high belt line in the back. It just looks dumb. Either do it right, or just do a hatchback.

In France they moved 355 units in 2013 and 100 in 2014. I guess in Europe we have to many alternatives

The only thing it badly needs is moar power. 200 hp wasn’t that impressive in 2007, what did Toyota think with only offering a 200 hp engine? And they’re still reluctant about more power. Smdh

The idea is nice, but that execution is horrendous. This is why we can’t have nice things. They don’t even understand the purpose of a shooting brake.

I’d rather they keep the power down so owners can enjoy more reasonable insurance rates. Aftermarket forced induction is a great solution for those who want more power.

How much faster? Like 1/4 of a second faster 0-60 so it can compete with a miata in a race to 60mph on a flat, straight track?

Even though I think 200 (205 in the new ones) hp is plenty, I agree with you that there should be a TRD/STi version. Why? Because practically everyone else wants it. Everyone who wanted an 86/BRZ/FR-S in its original form got one in the first two years of production. Including me. Since then, sales have plummeted without something new and fresh to keep it interesting, or to motivate current owners to upgrade.

I came to a similar conclusion. I took a close look at the Toyobaru at an auto expo and the back seats are a joke. Advertising the car as a 2+2 just leads to disappointment. They should have grown it a bit and turned it into a lift-back or even a shooting brake to improve cargo room and to have useable rear seats or they should have just ditched the rear seats altogether and made the car smaller and lighter.

I wish a company with money to burn would bring a coupe and shooting brake version to market to see which one sells better.
