Kinja'd!!!

As seen from my commute to work this morning. It looked like a normal Colorado plate, not a military or diplomat plate.

I really wish I got a clear photo of the license plate. I wonder if it’s actually registered as a Seat.

Distrito Federal (Mexico City) plates use that 3 number - 3 letter format. Probably from there. Other Mexican states have 2 dashes.

Upon closer inspection of the photo, looks like this style plate:

Funny enough I was just posting in another thread that I almost never see Seat’s in the US even though I see a lot of Mexican cars that we don’t get here in Texas.

I’m guessing they took the plate from another vehicle they own. I doubt there’s any way they could register that legally.

I had the same thought—probably drove up from Mexico.

I’m 90% sure it was a Colorado plate.

Probably not - when I zoom in on the picture I swear I see the green and red streaks at the top and a blob right where the “Ciudad Mexico” is. Also, the dash is too wide for CO. Very similar, with the same ###-XXX pattern, but I’m 99% sure it’s a Mexican plate. Seat sells Ibiza’s in Mexico and it wouldn’t be too outrageous to see one in Colorado.

Or it’s this:

Looks close to CO, but isn’t.

Also, either way, still cool to see in the USA. I wish we got Seat here, I love their style. Nice spot.

Neighbour had one as a courtesy car while he was waiting for his Eos to arrive.

He loved it and said if he hadn’t bought the Eos he would of bought the Ibiza.

Could be, it’s hard to see. I do see Ibizas with Mexican plates fairly often here.

It doesn’t appear to be a US plate, but I don’t think it would be impossible to get one. State DMVs typically only care if the car can pass tailpipe emissions and has things like working lights, brakes, and seatbelts.

It’s the feds that care about whether or not a car can legally be in the country. And if you manage to register something that’s under 25 years old, you’re taking a total gamble that they won’t come in and seize it at any time.

It is actually a Mexico City license plate, you can see the “engomado” (which is the sticker used by cars registered in Mexico) at the lower-right part of the windshield, cool to have such a long road trip in that little car.
