I don’t know where this is. In Connecticut, some intersections have all red for all cars so pedestrians can do exactly this. She may not necessarily be in Connecticut, but she might be from it.

You know what really grinds my gears? Rolling bags anywhere other than an airport. I mean, unless you’re carring a pallet of car batteries, I’m pretty sure there are shoulder bags and/or backpacks suited to just about every human need.
I work on a college campus and see people wheeling bags around sometimes. It just makes me think, this is what’s wrong with everything, the fact that someone is so lazy and/or incompetent that they cannot even be bothered to lift a small parcel up to the height of their own shoulder.

To be fair, rolling something is easier than carrying it. Especially if you’re old.
Neither of those is a permit to wander diagonally across an intersection.

This is well timed, since I almost killed a guy.
I’m rocking up to a light I know is going to turn green at 35-40, the 2 right lanes have cars in them, the left does not. I’m about 5-6 cars back from the light when it turns and some old guy barely moving walks out from in front of the car in the middle lane. I full on emergency braked and thankfully someone in the middle lane saw this coming and didn’t move up, allowing me to put half my car in their lane.
He still had 4 lanes left to cross.
This morning was almost very different.

My son was dealing with back problems in middle school. His doctor told us to get him a rolling backpack to relive some of his symptoms. We had to get the doctor to write a prescription for it so the teachers at his school would leave him alone about rolling his backpack everywhere.

This is true. My complaint applies more to someone rolling a bag the size of a small shoulder bag with 2 textbooks in it, across our campus which is mostly brick walkways. Imagine the noise that makes.
This person clearly looks like they are carrying a larger bag that would be reasonable to pickup. Which brings me to - why?
And lastly, yes. Unless that bag is your jackhammer and you’re about to pull out a safety vest and some cones and start street work, you shouldn’t be anywhere near the middle of that intersection, strolling along like you’re daydreaming in the park.

I was waiting for some pedestrians to use a crosswalk that was parallel to the direction I was going, when one truly shouted out loud “I’m going to go diagonal”, and proceeded to walk diagonally, while I waited for him to clear, then his friends to clear as they had to now cross where I wanted to go.

I would suggest that rocking up to a light that you know is going to change at 35-40 is not the safest way to go about it. Had it not been a pedestrian, it might have been somebody trying to beat the yellow. I know, I’m an old fart dad, so feel free to roll your eyes. My sons do all the time.

I won’t roll my eyes. Defensive driving or just being prepared for others people’s stupidity is the right way to drive. “Expect the unexpected.” But I’m also painfully aware Detroit is empty, even during the morning commute. Its a bit hard to shake the no people, no police, no care vibe of this place.
