Kinja'd!!!

I need new Snow tires for my car since I have discovered that the ones which are on it are 12 years old. I have pretty much settled on the Blizzak WS-80 as I have had good experiences with Blizzaks in the past. Tire Rack currently has the WS-80 in my size (175/65R15) on sale for $84.25 each (no idea what the normal price is but the Bridgestone website says the WS-80 starts at $99.99). Is this going to be the lowest they go? Any other recommendations?

I’ve been using Dunlop Wintermaxx tires on my 323 GTX the past few years and they are great. Definitely comparable to Blizzaks.

Doesn’t matter, they’re worth it.

That’s about what I paid. I’d say pull the trigger now. Don’t want to wait in hopes they go lower and have them go up instead.

Idk, but my blizzaks were about $540 installed.

This sounds about right. I have the WS-80's on the Subaru Outback and remember these are the real deal. If you are not actually driving on a lot of ice and snow get the intermediate ones, these tires are squirmy in warm weather (>50 degrees). Our roads are actually covered in ice and snow from December-March so they make sense for us. If I was in the mid west like nebraska or something I would get the intermediates.

I go to school in Burlington Vermont so I need winter tires which can handle some nasty conditions.

That’s what I was thinking but the college student who doesn’t get another paycheck until May is cringing at the $400 shipped (not that I can’t afford them but that’s a sizable chunk of my bank account balance).

These are looking to be about $400 shipped. I am going to guilt my mechanic into mounting them because he was the one who installed the 12 year old tires in the first place.

Maybe they’ll go down a little, but odds if they do, it won’t be by much. I’d pull the trigger.

I keep forgetting about the whole “shipped” thing. I always just drive down to Windsor Locks and pick them up.

I may ask my dad to go pick them up. There isn’t much point to me driving all the way to CT from Burlington VT just to pick up tires which won’t be mounted until the summer.

I’d grab them for you, but as I recall they always check ID and/or credit card.

Are you planning to buy them now and stash them away until next winter? Driving on them year-round in warmer weather will prematurely wear out the silica compound in the rubber and reduce winter traction.

Grabbing them while they are on sale now for next winter. I would hate driving on the 15s year round as they ruin the handling of the car compared to the 16s my summers are on.

I checked the site and it says they check both ID and credit card. That means I can’t have my dad go grab them if I pay for them.

These tires are really good, worth the $$$. Plus if you are like me and don’t put on big miles in the winter they will last quite a while.
