What percentage of your car's width is rubber?

Kinja'd!!!

According to Wikipedia, the NB Miata is 1680 mm wide. I run 225 tires, so that’s 450 mm of rubber. 450 divided by 1680 yields... 26.7% . More than a quarter of the car’s width is rubber meeting the road.

My 323 GTX runs 185 snow tires, and its listed width is 1645 mm. 370/1645 = 22.4%

Who’s got the most rubber in relation to car width? The least?

Apparently the stock tires are 25.8% on a FoST. I don’t think this actually has any performance value. Weight per contact patch might, but tread patterns could easily equalize that.

I bet tires on supercars are an even smaller percentage than on most of our cars.

I would love to go wider, but it requires a lot more work that I don’t want to do yet. I also have trouble finding a wider tire with the amount of sidewall that I really want. The initial goal was a 275/50R18, but I couldn’t find a single damn set of tires that matched front and rear and had the stagger I wanted. Real life struggles.
