Goodwood is literally the best racing.

Dude, how this is not like the biggest event on the Jalopnik calendar is beyond me.

It is the last bastion of true gentlemen racing cars.

I have literally no idea :)

If I was being cynical I’d say that it’s because Jalopnik has strayed so far from its original raison d’etre that it’s no longer as interested in neat old cars doing neat things as it is about the latest weird statement Elon Musk has made and reviewing the latest Cayman like nearly every single other auto-site out there...

But I’m not being cynical because we still have Raph and Torch who are beacons of Jalopy-Beatnik light in a sea of drab auto reviews ;) and a host of others who I have criminally forgotten the names of, but has similarly wowed me with their excellent articles (there was that Steph lady a while back who wrote about modifying her 370Z and Evo. That’s one of them).

You are spot on man. The fact that the chose as their clickbait highlight for Goodwood Pink Floyd’s drummer wrecking, as much KILLER racing went on, says it all.

Really? Three abreast Pre war racers down the back stretch and that is what you picked? Mark Blundell driving the crap out of a 70's Capri? The SICK battle between the two AC Cobras and the TVR Griffith?

And they picked Nick Mason spinning on a parade lap?

They totally fucked this one up bro.

Jalopnik went full on Gawker a couple of years ago, which is why I stopped reading. That combination of payola nonsense with idiotic pseudo-political rants is particularly hypocritical as well as just plain annoying.

I happened to glance at the FP today and was quite amused that they seem to have spent several days bashing Trump for attacking the EPA, and today have led with a piece about how his attacks on the EPA won’t work because, um, er, the free market was going to achieve those things anyway? That’s beyond confused. Seriously, how dumb do you have to be to aim at Trump and miss ?!

I mean, it’s one thing when they make up total nonsense to criticise Uber, that’s where the payola comes in, they have to if they want to get the money. But how can you find it necessary to fabricate witless criticisms of Trump when you have an unmissable target already?

Haha I hadn’t spotted that! Ridiculous.

I’m the same as you that I don’t go on the FP much anymore because very little of the stuff that actually brought me to Jalopnik still remains.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still there. It’s just interspersed with such meaningless and tedious twaddle that it’s no longer a go-to destination when I’m bored at work.

I realised a while back that it’s no longer possible to have the civil conversations about cars that used to bring me here. I still like Torch’s stuff, but you don’t get the interesting discussions below the fold that there used to be. Largely because everything has been politicised, so people are now trying to attack/defend whatever idiocy was pushed in the article, instead of being able to admit lack of knowledge/strong opinions.
