Well it happened on just the third ride I’ve had since getting my 2015 KLR.

.....I fell over in a parking lot. >_<.

I was wearing full gear so it literally didn’t hurt and my bike only has a bit of scratching on the end of the handle bar and the rear bit of plastic needs to be re-mounted but other than that it’s perfect.

In my defense I thought a car to my left was gonna blow a stop sign so I stopped, leaned away refelxively which leaned the bike which, when standing still, is very apt to fall over....I now know what this feels like.

The only damage may have been to my pride, but it still was a shock. However, I have now joined the ranks of KLR owners. Hell, the bike stayed running during the fall (I shut it off ASAP). How does the saying go? “To know if your bike is ready to go around the world, kick it on its side. If you can stand it back up without shedding a tear and nothing breaks, you’re on the right path”. I figure it just has a bit of character now

Pic is not my bike, but probably will be my bike in the future

Came here expecting a photo of a milk crate luggage rack, how can you call yourself a KLR owner without one?!

I’ve only laid my bike down once, and that was walking it backward while off on damp grass. foot slipped, and ass-over-applecart we went.

Is it fuel injected? Why did it keep running while on its side? That’s not good.

Well, at least you didn’t take it off the rear stand and forget to put the kickstand down.........twice.........

I feel your pain.

Ooooooffff. I did that on my old honda. The honda did not do tip-overs as well as the KLR does. More chrome. Less frame and handlebars.

It’s carbureted, actually. The bowls had a bit of gas left in them and I shut it off before they went dry. Or maybe it’s just a single bowl. It’s a single cylinder motor and I think it just has a single jet outside of the pilot jet.

I only saw the official Kawasaki milk crate and the price is too high. I’ll have one soon though! I can make my own with some sticks and odd bolts. There are some plans on a forum that I’ll follow that’s good for 50k miles or so. I figure it’s good enough. /s

You got off better than I. I laid my first bike (‘96 GS500E) down in a parking lot due to leaning way to far over in a corner at way to low a speed on brand-new tires. Broke my collar bone and “totaled” the bike (gouge in the engine casing on a $1,200 bike).

I think every KLR 650 is kicked over before it leaves the factory as part of QC.

I haven’t fallen on the street yet, but have many times off road. When I had my GSXR, I used to ride with a buddy that had a Katana. He fell more often than not when we were at stop lights. I’ve never ridden with anyone who laid down their bike more than that guy.

hee hee hee, it makes me unreasonably happy that he did that on a katana.

A friend pointed me in the direction of an anime called “Bakuon!!”. It is best summed up as a love letter to learning to ride motorcycles. Of course, being an anime, this is wrapped up in high school girls and a sprinkling of fan service...But one of the main girls rides a suzuki katana and is an absolute suzuki fanatic. But half the show is dedicated to making fun of katana riders. It’s great.
