You’d have to be an idiot to want that motor in any car. GM took their respectable gas 350 and did a royally half-assed (as GM is known for) job converting it to run on diesel. These things were the Chevy Aveos of the era - the engine actually failed earlier than the body/interior, unlike most GM products.

That price is pure crack pipe, too.

Is the Aveo mechanically unsound? I always assumed it was just tinny and chintzy.

Usually the adage is correct: “a GM car will run longer poorly than most cars will run at all”

This is not even remotely true for the Aveo. Their engines are notorious for their 50k mile timing belt change interval, the fact that many don’t even make it 30k, and that the car depreciated so fast that the car was worth less than the cost to replace the engine the moment the warranty ran out.

Search for “Aveo” on CL sometime. Most of the ads will mention that the timing belt went and that it destroyed the engine, so they’re hoping to get more than a junkyard will give them (practically nothing) for it.

If you’re wondering about the car you posted above, here’s an article (#7) that explains a bit further: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/a3762/4293188/

You got me laughing with that one. I had no idea, but I believe you to be a credible witness.

I drove a Buick with a V6 diesel back in the early 80s. Back at the time, someone said, “all the rod caps fall off.” Doesn’t sound good.

Thanks for the reply.
