I spent the day in the workshop cleaning and straightening from the interior finishing work I’ve been doing. I got all the garbage taken to the dump (a whole 5x8 trailer load), got the pedestal grinder bolted down to the floor, got a bunch of crap straightened up, etc. I also went to the Despot to get the materials for the next phase of work.

I had the AC set on 78° and on the “Dry” function, so it was mostly doing dehumidification. It was WONDERFUL. Before I knew it it was 7pm. Not sweating my ass off makes all the difference in the world.

I’m sort of jealous in that it’s been between 30 and 40 degrees in my garage all weekend and in either case yours was 78. In summer when it’s 90 in there I will probably feel the same way.

78°? And you’re cooling off? I cant wait to be there. It’s 53° in the project hole right now.

The natural a/c in my workspace is powerful enough that water spilled on the floor freezes almost instantly.

My workshop has fully insulated walls, plus it never gets cold enough for long enough for that to be a problem here. The only place in my workshop where that would happen is in the freezer portion of the drinks fridge.

It’s still technically winter and it’s 85° here. It’s not unheard of to have summers where there are 30+ days in a row over 100°, and those will be the true test.

As I type this, it’s 69° out with 90% humidity.

Ahh. Crap. You know what? I want heat. I want all the heat. I’d rather sweat than freeze.

It’s the 90% humidity that makes things miserable. 90° weather w/ 30% humidity I can work with, because you sweat and it evaporates and you cool off.

At 90% humidity, your pants just turn into a crock pot and your shirt sticks to you in new and uncomfortable ways. That’s why I was running my AC in dehumidifier mode. The system was pulling almost 16 oz of water out of the air every hour.

The trick is to stage all your moves beforehand so if you have to open the roll door you can close it quickly.

Congrats on the successful (AC) build

We used to live where the climate was like that.

Late one September, the first evening the broiler didn’t stay on “high” all the way into the night, it started feeling pretty chilly outside, like “You know, if it gets any cooler we’re totally gonna need jackets.”

So we checked the thermometer. It was 78°...
