Kinja'd!!!

My dad got himself a Nikon D800E to replace his main camera that he hasn’t used in a couple years, a Mamiya RZ67. He’s also replacing his secondary camera with the D800E, a D5300. So I just bought the D5300 to replace my D5100.

It looks nearly identical, just has a bigger screen, better microphone, and most importantly, 24 megapixels vs. the D5100's 16. I also got his 55-200 Nikkor along with the 18-55. I’ve been researching different lenses a lot, and I’ll probably be getting an ultrawide, a prime, and an everyday replacement for the 18-55, once I’ve gotten good enough to justify spending that much on lenses. I mean the Nikkor 18-55 really isn’t terrible, there are just better ones out there.

Here’s the Mamiya. I grew up with my dad always using this camera for his professional pictures, but I can totally understand him finally switching to a DSLR. The backback with everything in it weighs at least 40lbs, whereas the Nikon with its lenses and bag is around half that, and nearly the same picture quality.

I haven’t taken any pictures with it yet, I’ll do some today if I have time, I’m excited to see the difference.

I’ve got a D3300 in red....I’m an amateur, so it’s a bit of a learning curve, but very nice camera so far! :)

Thanks, and I’ll do what I can. The weather has been awful here, cloudy and pouring rain. Once that smartens up I’ll get out and start taking more pictures. I’m gonna try and do interesting ones indoors for now.

I’ve never used a Canon. When I first got the D5100, I was looking at Canon Rebels, but there was a really good deal on the Nikon at the time, so now I’m used to Nikon.

I have a similar story. I was looking at both but had used a Canon before but what really did it was the T5 being on sale refurbed for 280 with the 18-55 and a 75-300 direct from Canon. I had been thinking about buying one but couldn’t pass on the deal and have been happy so far but think I would enjoy some of the features of a higher grade camera such as moveable screen and video capability.

Thanks! It’s my first DSLR and I’m learning on it and am taking a photography class at college with it.

Wow that’s cheap, awesome. I don’t make videos really, or use the movable screen, but my dad does and likes it a lot. Definitely nice for raising up on a tripod and still being able to see the screen.

Nice. From the months of December to February, I loaned a T5 from my school for multiple instances. I got a feel for it, and it produced some surprisingly good shots for an entry-level camera with a kit lens! I recently got my first DSLR in the beginning of the month: the Canon EOS 80D. It has a flip-out screen, 60 FPS, and so much more that made it worth the purchase. However, I’m still new to the world of DSLRs (and to an extent, photography), so I’m learning new features and tricks every time I use it.

Here are some of my T5 shots:

How’s it shoot? I had some bad experiences with the point and shoot nikons so I went with a canon instead.

I’ve only taken like 6 pictures so far, but they’re looking really good. I’ll take some more, maybe poke at them in lightroom and probably post some tonight. I was really happy with the D5100, I imagine this is going to be the same but better.

Damn I really want that Mamiya RZ67. It would take such great shots. To bad they are like $3k with goodies.

Yeah, he’s gonna be looking for at least $3500 CAD with all the lenses, backpack, and custom lens support he had machined.
