Quick question: which do you prefer?

Kinja'd!!!

My car as it sits now^

Kinja'd!!!

Or this V50 with the chrome waterfall?^

There’s a new OEM waterfall on eBay right now for not too much money so I’m debating on grabbing it since my current grille is somewhat cracked and fading, but I can’t decide whether to get the same grille (as that on my car now) or the waterfall style. The latter is a bit more appropriate IMO for non-turbo Vo’s but I’m not sure if it would go well with the paint color. Any photoshop experts out there or just some unwarranted advice?

Because you don’t want to go and chase those waterfalls.

The current one. A tighter black mesh weave than you have would look good too, but please no waterfall!  I feel strongly about this haha

Mmmm, a tighter mesh weave...back to the ‘Bays!

Hmmm, what about black plastidipped waterfall? I like it better than the current coarse mesh...

Waterfalls, especially chrome ones, are too irritating to dry after washing.

Yeah, plenty of time with my dad’s V70 waterfall has taught me that...

That looks the best of the 3, in my opinion.

I prefer the chromed “waterfall” grille. It makes the car look a bit fancier. It would also look great with chrome rims to match the grille if you’re into that sort of thing.

I might end up getting it and switching the two out depending on what I feel like. The current one isn’t in too bad a state, but it is ageing thanks to the California sun and the previous owner’s inability to park.

Chrome waterfall

Imho at least! Your car is looking great though, hopefully I’ll get another Volvo in my life sometime soon!

I concur! I’ll probably get the waterfall and then work on learning to plastidip...I think a tight mesh would make the car look a bit “sportier” than I’d like since it’s just an auto 2.4i so I don’t want to give it pretensions of performance that it doesn’t have...thanks for the compliment! I finally have a bit of free time so I’m working on cleaning her up and making sure she’s ship-shape!

Extra protip: if you are not a Photoshop wizard, take a photo of your car from about the same angle and print out the picture of your car and the one with the waterfall grille and cut the grille out with scissors and put it over your car.

Thanks for the idea! I’m thinking of grabbing it while I can so that I have it and just seeing if I feel like perhaps plastidipping the “waterfall” later.

Chrome waterfalls are for Buicks, (just my personal opinion..) I like the orig version - you can see the Volvo sash better.

Definitely the current one, it reminds me of 740 turbo grilles.

That’s why I’m thinking dipped waterfall since I think I want something other than the coarse egg-crate for a change...

I have the black grid grill on mine and much prefer it to the chrome.

Fair enough. As a guy who’s doing all the suspension/brakes/safety/aero etc. Mods before ANYTHING in the engine bay I totally understand the desire to not look sportier than you are, so to speak.

Easiest solution for both of us? A luscious LS swap with a solid transmission backing it up!

Definitely the egg crate. I painted my waterfall black.

Haha, I plan to keep her doing DD duties for as long as possible, if anything in terms of performance it would probably be slightly retuned ECU with nice exhaust in the future, just to make it a bit more exciting—I’ll hopefully have other cars to fulfill my speed fix in the future!

My V7o has the waterfall and I’m thinking about switching a grille from an S60.

But to answer your question, current grille.

If you went with the chrome grill, I think it would look out of place b/c the rest of your trim is black.

To make it a cohesive (and not look like you just slapped a chrome grill on a black trimmed car) you’d need more chrome elsewhere but careful as a litle can go a long way.

That’s what I thought but I don’t hate the lower car which is basically the same as mine + waterfall. Anyways, I’ve ordered it and it’ll go on just as a change of scene for a while as I learn how to plastidip/paint to get the black waterfall effect!
