Help me identify this spider. Sorry for the lousy photos, I didn’t want to get too close. It was about 1.5-inches across from the tip of one leg to the other leg. Body and legs were a little fuzzy and light brown to grey-green in color. I couldn’t see its abdominal area very well.

Kinja'd!!!

It was photographed in northwest Montana in a shed that is above freezing all winter.

It had a dense irregular web in the corner. The area is almost always dark.

I think I know what it is but don’t want to admit it.

Most likely a house spider, but could also be a hobo spider.

There is a nearby restaurant that had a hobo spider infestation.

Its theOhGoddamnitItsASpiderFuckingKillTheShitOutOfIt-icus.

They are all that, by the way. One species. That we must kill until they are killed dead forever.

The real reason aliens won’t come here and talk to us is because who wants to visit a planet infested with motherfucking spiders? No one that’s who. Once the last one dies, we’ll get the wormhole technology and aliens will finally feel safe enough to visit.

Looks like a Hobo spider. I caught a big one in my bonus room last year. It had testicles and everything.

I agree with the Hobo consensus. I wouldn’t worry too much, honestly. They’re not in the house yet, and they’re not “deadly” unless you’re a fragile elderly person or an infant.

sBased on where it was living, it’s some kind of house spider. They’re not dangerous.

Hobo spiders wouldn’t set up shop there, not enough moisture and too many competitors. Claims that they’re dangerous to humans is highly questionable and almost certainly inaccurate. Also, this one has bands on the legs, which excludes it entirely.

Look for more. If it is a hobo, there’s a chance that there are quite a few more.

Hobo bites are particularly fun. They can cause lesions and lead to necrosis in rare cases.

It’s pretty hard to tell what it is from the picture though.

Any pics if the web? There’s usually a funnel somewhere if it’s a hobo.

I really want to go back to school just to study spiders. Not that I want to be an arachnologist mind you. I just want to accurately judge how loudly to scream and how quickly to run when I see a spider.

Here’s my understanding of spiders: outside a few notable exceptions (black widow, tarantula), it is almost always either a house spider of a garden spider.

Was it found in the house? Smaller byqn a quarter? House spider.

Was it found outside? Larger than a quarter? Garden spider.

I believe you are correct about the seriousness of their bite. I also agree that that little guy probably won’t do any harm.

It is about 1.5 to 2"!in diameter so it’s an alien.

Looks like a Hobo. Had a teammate get bit by a brown recluse during football practice when we were kids. Had a golfball sized hole in his arm from it after getting out of the hospital. Spiders creep me out!

Also the Raid MAX Bug Barrier is the way to go. You can get it at Walmart in a spray bottle and it is no joke. I live on a third floor apartment and the spiders were crazy all over the stairwells with the flood lights because we live next to a small pond. They used to power wash every couple weeks to no avail. I sprayed and knocked down all the cob webs. No spiders for TWO YEARS!
