Kinja'd!!!

Haven’t noticed any extra chassis stiffness yet, but I definitely feel safer. And there’s plenty of headroom, seems funny now that I was worried about being seated low enough... The bar ends are wrapped too so you don’t damage the mounting points. All-around a pretty great design. Haven’t tried closing the soft top yet but I was told it works fine!

I told my girlfriend it was for bedroom safety. She asked me where the highdensity foam padding was... (she’s a car nut too)

Now I want to see a “cage” made entirely of 80/20 bolted together

That’s not a great rollbar, flip upside-down going reasonably quick forward will fold that thing back like a wet newspaper. Tie it in at the windshield or run bars back to the rear corners of the trunk lid, the support’s needed.

Door bars are coming next, but that will probably be everything. It’s primarily a street car, with occasional track days and lot of dirt road sliding antics. It’s the chassis stiffening that I have really bought it for... That said, it’s very well regarded in the Miata community and used in many top placing cars across various racing bodies. The owner of the company takes safety very seriously.

Thank you though! If it ever turns into a full on race car, I’ll definitely take your advice and brace it better.

Oh man, you should totally post that on a Miata forum and watch the Blackbird Fabworx fans come flying in with anger. Blackbird is supposedly the best (also the most expensive) bolt-in rollbar for Miatas. I still believe Hard Dog delivers the same protection for better value (especially since I’m on the east coast and 1 state away from HD whereas Blackbird is located in CA).

Hard Dog’s been around for a long while so they have proof their products doing their job right . I’ve only been able to find one set Blackbird crash pictures (can’t even them anymore) and wasn’t a Miata (I think it was either a Z-car or a S2K).

I’m around full cages all the time, personally I’d rather go 100% to a full cage versus any bolt-in rollbar. It may work well, just my gut thinks it doesn’t. Then again I don’t like Miatas, that alone would get me crucified.

I agree that full cages are the best safety solution but I don’t think they work well (in terms of comfort and accessibility) if it’s in dd-able street car. Even Miata owners know they’re taking chances of getting whacked in the back of the head with their rollbars (provided they’re not using FIA padding but that only minimizes the blunt of the impact) in the event of being rear-ended. These are aimed more for guys who love doing mountain runs and track days.
