I was asked.
Because for the few months it will be mine, I want it to be MINE. I don’t want to see another car on the street and think: it looks exactly like mine.
Since I don’t keep most of my cars for a long time, I don’t do extensive modifications. But if I can change it just a little bit to make it stand out in the crowd, I will.
That’s why I painted the wheels on my RX8, why I put 18" BBS wheels on a down to earth A4. That is also why I spent a complete week-end trying, failing, and trying again to wrap various body parts on the 208 and why I spent money on wheels and tyres when the car came with 2 sets of wheels.
Also: If I score OZ wheels and almost new Pirelli tyres for under 500€, why not?
Also: the summer tyres coming with the car came on the factory wheels, which look great, but combine a 5 spoke design with a 4 bolt pattern, so they look like cheap aftermarket wheels. Peugeot, why do you do this?

With mods it might sell to the right buyer. Enthusiast cars with mods would sell better. My Juke be hard sell. It is non-NISMO, so it be hard sell with mods. If anything I sell it on the Forums, it take longer but I know an enthusiast would buy it.

I was lucky with those, since PSA has an odd pattern, they were pretty cheap. They also have some traces of usage

When I was selling my R53 Mini, it had some 17" wheels on it, just some Falken Hanabis. I couldn’t get anyone to come see it, at the same price, but switched back to stock 17", I had multiple people come within the first week of re-listing online. Just a tip in case it helps somehow. Most people like unmolested cars even if it’s tasteful wheels. Plus you can get more for offering the wheels separately in a lot of cases (what I did).

As a buyer you simply want to avoid the “spent money on modifications, no money left for oil changes” owners. Which is more common under young owners than under older ones. Spotting sellers like that isn’t an exact science, it’s more of a Fingerspitzengefühl.
For whatever it’s worth, I’d spend more for a 208 GTi (or any car really, especially an enthusiast one) with stock wheels than on one with modifications, however tasteful they are. In this case I like the stock wheels more than the aftermarket ones too.

Looking good! Can’t really go wrong with OZs (I’ve got Alleggeritas on the MR2, for that sweet weight loss).
