The Stupidest V8 Turbo Setup Ever.

So that Daytona Truck I posted came from a Museum/Dealership called Volo Auto Museum, or Volo Cars. I decided to see what else they had and found this Nova.

Now I know what your thinking “those intake filters look stupid” and your right, but that’s just the beginning.

First staters there’s no intercooler. And there’s this weird cross pipe connecting the two sides of the intake for some reason... even tho they both blow into the same carburetor. Also that oil feed line doesn’t look right, I’m no expert but that doesn’t look very secure.

Kinja'd!!!

Look at the inlet for the hot side of this turbo, sharp 90 degree turns are great for flow, or so I’m told. Oh and I don’t see a blow off valve anywhere on this setup...

Kinja'd!!!

If you look really close at this pic you can see where the heat from the turbos as started melting the wrap on the hood, I don’t think real carbon fiber melts like that.

Kinja'd!!!

And the icing on this shit cake is, the filers are lop sided. All that work and they could even get it symmetrical.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

They look like some dang googly eyes.

I’ve been to Volo several times. I get less impressed with their operation every time. It’s to the point where last week I was staying with a friend who lives 10 minutes from there, and I genuinely had no interest in returning even when he said there wan’t much else to do in the area.

That packaging confuses the hell out of me. I don’t get it.

Carbon fiber does melt/wrinkle but not quite like that. Yeesh.

So much potential in a twin turbo Nova and they pretty well botched it.

Looking at some of the close up shots, I think the hood is real c/f, if not it’s a high quality, and well executed wrap. And there’s isn’t anything about this car I’d call “high quality” or “well executed”. Another interesting note is unlike ever over Car on there website there’s no video of this one running/driving.

Why couldn’t they just do a normal TT setup.

Do they actually modify the cars, or do they just buy and sell them. So many of their cars have autozone parts it’s astonishing. Like this Pro Turing Camaro. Complete with a 70 dollar Grant wheel, 80 dollar head unit, a 4 dollar Charger port thing, and crooked Spectre intake. All on a car that they are asking 45,000 dollars, for.

But if you don’t see the little things the car itself looks pretty good.

Because stuff sticking out of the hood is always a good thing, always.

My wife has family in Chicago. We visit almost every year. So I venture out to Volo every couple of years. I always enjoy it. There always seems to be a few cars that I’d like to have in my garage.

I think with more and more muscle car and classic car auctions, the Volo business model has suffered.

This makes roadkill look well thought out. They had a blow off valve

They don’t do nearly as much buying-restoring-selling as they once did, now it’s almost strictly consignment for people trying to sell. This was once a place you could walk into a normal showroom and there were two Boss 429s. Like Angry drifter said, the big auction groups really killed its market, so they moved to consignment and touristy stuff (the movie & celeb cars, the military museum).

I guess Consignment explains the crap mods, and high asking prices,

Should have had accordion filter couplers so they could just flop around, would have somehow actually been at least funny.

This is probably perfect for the guy who waxes his car all day, drives it around the block feeling invincible making BOV noises for his neighbors, and then put it away until next weekend. Then go to local bar or C&C meet to brag about his Street Outlaws TT MurderNova tucked away at home.

I’ve been there a bunch of times. It’s virtually all consignment at crazy high prices.

How disappointing. This car had so much potential to be so cool, and the modder(s) got all sloppy. It’s still got potential, but it’s gonna take some work. What a shame. I really like most of what they had in mind, concept-wise (although I’ve never been much of a fan for cutting holes through the hood).

That thing on the back of the intake.... elbow? Top right hand side of the pic... Might be a blow off valve. Maybe... even still, it looks cheesy, and no intercoolers (I even looked for air-to-water ones, as they are small and could be hidden),plus the rusty hot side of the turbo and melty melty hood. Nope nope nope.

I have no idea, but they have a lot of “tribute” stuff (normal Mustangs and Camaros made to look like the fast ones) and a room full of Duesenberg IIs that they tell people are real Duesenberg. While that is true in the most technical sense of the term, they really ought to disclose that these are Deusy IIs from the 80's, which they very much don’t. At least those aren’t for sale.

Pretty par for the course from Volo, in my opinion. As others have pointed out, so much of their inventory is consignment - and many of those are heavy with bondo.

I live a short distance away and used to work literally down the street, but I’ve not been in a long time, and dread being asked by car friends to join them for shows or browsing.
